Now I will keep Hulkenberg from being the party's punching bag :)
Tbh I initially thought "oh no a meme character like in all those animes"
But they manage to create an awesome character, I love him.
He's simultaneously:
- A badass Ninja/Samurai with insane skills
- An older man and father
- A CUTE BAT (I was dying of laughter when he was making bread by stepping on the dough with his little paws).
- Also the way his son died and the entire relationship and reason for his exile are relatable.
- Finally he's clearly the "Japanese" character (his entire gear and culture is basically Bushido/Japan) which is hilarious that they made the bat character the Japanese one lol.
There is a lot of references to Asians culture being the oppressed tribes in the game (I think the mustari is based on Hindu or Buddhist mythology due to their third eye).
HIs Abyssal Blade is perfect to in the same action put a good debuff in the enemie, and give a good damage.
We did get a cool Rhoag party member. Louis killed him.
So far I don't see him as having bad damage.
Plus he has single hit attacks, and his synthesis I have is AOE with dark damage which many enemies are vulnerable too. Add to the fact that he has high agility and can dodge tons of attacks. He's a very good character IMO.
I do agree that Grius was a good character.
However I can't imagine the story with him alive, I feel that Maria being orphaned adds lots to the story for some reason and the link we have with her. I wish that Grius had been characterised differently, maybe being a lone mercenary or something.
For me is one of the best companions.
Let me clarify. I fully agree that the story would not be the same if Grius lived. However, if we can consider Shinjiro a party member in P3, Grius gets the same consideration from me, and he is Rhoag. So even if it is only for a short while, we get a Rhoag party member.
On the topic of Heismay, I absolutely love him. His design is appealing, while his bond story is handled very well, and despite what expectations his design sets, he is very much not a mascot character in the way that Teddie and Morgana were, and that's a breath of fresh air, as much as I liked Ted and Mona in Persona too.
His archetype fits too if you think about it. He was a shadow knight, made to the all the dodgy underhanded things that the standard knights couldn't be associated with. So yeah, theft and murder and stuff like that. Doesn't really fit his personality, but that's the only real job he could get due to his race, so it's what he had to do and what he became good at.
