About the music so far

Hey guys, just barely 3 hours in and I noticed that the music seems kinda weak compared to the persona frachise. Nothing memorable so far and the power up scenes had imo just straight up the wrong kind of music. There is nothing "epic" so far. Does this change later on or is it all the same kind of tone?

Pretty sure its all just opinion at this point. I personally think the Enemy Ambush theme is one of the most incredible pieces of battle music i've heard, since the choir syncs up so well with my ass getting handed to me.

Modern Persona delivers a more pop vibe with the battle themes, so if thats what you're into then that's what you're into. No hate or anything, just different strokes for different folks as it's always been.

I think the music does a pretty killer job of immersing you in the areas for the most part (story dungeon 4 especially got me good!), REBirth's link to the normal Dungeon theme above is a good example.

That being said, it's a very different kind of soundtrack to Persona, Persona's soundtrack is all about you taking notice and doing your Moe Szyslak dance moves to it, whereas Metaphor's is a lot more aimed at being in the background to your actions I feel.

So I wouldn't call it weak exactly, just a different aim for a different game.

These guys are on crack. Meguro has decades worth of bangers and hes just not bringing his a game on this one. Strange Journey compared to Metaphor is night and day when Metaphor is so painfully generic. Dunno if Atlus was being stingy or what but there aren't even different boss themes for more unique bosses like the doppelganger and the dragons. Soundtrack is less of a megaten soundtrack and more of a fantasy game soundtrack. Which would be fine if Shoji fing Meguro wasn't composing.

Good ear, personally speaking it's been very evident to me since Strange Journey that Meguro really struggles with orchestral music and while he makes a lot of improvements here it's still very apparent in a lot of areas. The music fits and is pleasant sounding enough but lacks the complexity that the genre tends to entail (you'll notice a lot of the best songs are rather simple compositionally). This is especially noticeable with some of the music meant to be dramatic, as Meguro particularly seems to have trouble creating heavier music (the awakening music you mentioned is a really good example of this). Compare anything from this soundtrack to say, something like EOV from Trails of Cold Steel 2 and it becomes incredibly apparent what I mean; despite the latter not having the benefit of live orchestration beyond vocals like this score it manages to feel much more dense, dynamic, and imposing. Overall it's still a fine score but I do find a lot of people saying it's the soundtrack of the year and it's kinda hard for me to agree.

I agree. It's a shame you can't hear this music when you out level the enemy so you can no longer squad ambush them.

Dunno what this thread is about. The music fits the game like a glove. Apart from the epic battle music, just visiting More is so pleasing to the ears. I don't see the need comparing it to the Persona game soundtracks.

It took a bit initially for me too, but the music grew on me once I hit the 2nd town and now I absolutely love all of it.
