You can also switch a character between the archetypes they know in the equipment screen.
Courage is given to you in droves. Eloquence, Tolerance and Imagination are not.
My good-to-knows:
1) Every archetype (starting from the first tier) has an ability that is exclusive to the hero character. The merchant one gives you ridiculous amounts of money while the masked dancer recovers your team's HP and MP with every won battle. The rest of the abilities are useful, too, but for grinding, the first two are irreplacable.
2) Before you visit the gravesite near Martira, talk to the information merchant. You could lose up to two days if you don't know that he can unlock a new route and location for which you have to travel through the gravesite. Otherwise, you'll visit the gravesite, return and have to travel there again.
3) For the same reason, check for quests regularly. It can be annoying if you go into a dungeon just to return there because someone wanted an item from that location.
You can farm items from enemies by making the MC a Thief and repeatedly stunning enemies in overworld combat. You can stun the enemy, giving you a chance to steal its normal item, then go into combat. Use steal on the enemy, to have a chance to steal the rare item. Then ESCAPE. You keep the stolen items and you can stun the enemy again right away, rinse and repeat. Of course this works only as long as you're not too high level. But you can still start a battle, steal an item and escape to repeatedly steal rare items.
2 - you got alot more time than you think to max out releationships. i had more than 10 days to spare with nothing to do before entering the point of no return, despite me playing on hard and using 2 days in each dungeon. some even took 3 days.
3 - main char gains a unique archtype in late game that scales good with strength - i had specced into magic...
