I agree that Denuvo does hit the performance of IO from your disk, but if you have a fast enough disk it does not really matter. I can't discuss further as the last time I tried to elaborate on that I got a nasty message that any mention of pir - a - tery is not allowed in the forums, in resume Denuvo does not really matter.

They can patch exploits, so people who steal the game at least will have to wait for every new version of the game to be cracked if they want bug fixes or new content.

Denuvo has never stopped people from stealing games, but it makes it a more time consuming and inconvenient process.

Beyond that, it's a legal issue. In order to keep an IP you have to actively protect it from copyright theft. They have to at least create the appearance that they're trying to prevent copyright theft or they lose legal claim on their intellectual property; it's just how copyright law works.
