[Spoiler] That "plot-twist" (after Opera House) - I uninstalled
Edit:
I actually re-installed because spending 50 bucks on the game and then not finishing it felt like a waste.

Well ... after finishing the game it still leaves a very sour taste in my mouth. My impression hasn't changed a lot: The entire story collapses the moment after the Opera house. Louis basically transforms into a cartoon villain/story threats that feel really important (the Saint and the Church/M. Academy) just rush by (they did Rella REALLY dirty - what happened to that arc?! It felt rushed AF) and very final battle (last form) aside nothing hooked me (and I mean the fights themselves - the story behind it was something I have seen a million times). Louis became just "unreemably bad" for the sake of it while your party members basically climb over each other to sacrifice themselves without any consequences.

Some credit: They really tried to make the ending "complete" (lots of scenes of what happens after) but by that point I also wasn't invested anymore because what I initially said holds true: If they fake-kill one character (Louis) 2 times, they will do it again and again. The moment your crew "sacrifices themselves" I just laughed because of how meldramatic and senseless that was - and of course they come back fine and dandy with a (let's face it) more than flimsy explanation. I had to fight my way through everyone talking about friendship and love in the end before the final fight.

Overall I think the writing in this game STARTS very strong and stumbles so badly that I almost suspect that they switched writers halfway through.

Urgh ....

I loved the game's story so much. Louis dead and - of course - he wasn't the one with the curse ... Forden in a better position ... such compelling plot points and then it all just gets thrown out of the window - I'm shocked beyond words right now.

Louis's DeusExMacina bs comeback is the most boring villian revival I have encountered in a long while. Zorban replacing the lance on stage while falsly examinating Louis's body is also just not sound.

Omg I'm actually thinking about quitting - this plot twist killed any tension whatsoever D-: What is wrong with ATLUS? They used to be so good with plot twists! Did they think the story would somehow not work without Louis? ♥♥♥♥, I'm actually angry right now ...

Edit: I actually uninstalled right now, I can't take the plot serious anymore after such lazy writing and I'm not kidding: I'm not interested anymore where the story goes after this. I had that fantastic duel with Louis that was worthy of his build-up and now everything they build up to just evaporated and meant nothing.

Bro was near death, bleeding, outnumbered. How is that a duel? No, he set you up and he had you in his pocket the entire time.
I like that when someone has criticisms with a game it's all ermmmmm okay bye 🤓🤓🤓

Is this reddit? Since when was discussion frowned upon lmao. Op ngl that sounds ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥♥. Glad i stopped, hate twists like that.
yeah they bungled it towards the end , makes it hard to not nitpick when louis have plot armor, doesnt help with some cutscene also being kinda meh.

temple scene where the dragon tailsweeps once then just waits there for eupha and hulk chitchats til eupha turns into a power ranger

Fidelio dying * louis just standing there waiting while we gather around fidelio, like thats it one shot only? spam your beam dammit XD

prince curse is removed , yet i cannot go to the prince right away . why not? dont i have the power of teleport. conveniently discovered and dies so i can merge. great

saintess ultra speaker , hey atleast denounce louis while your at it or help me kill louis before you go ♥♥♥

louise now has the real spear of killing * proceeds to remove his advantage to be able to kill others without dueling . err could have killed the mc first? but nah fck it
Louis "dying" and "coming back" wasn't by any means a Deus Ex Machina.

Zorba, Louis's right hand man, is a necromancer, and to add on top of that, one of the most powerful necromancers in existence capable of using melancholia to power his spells. We had also literally seen, by this point, Zorba stitch himself back together after receiving fatal wounds and come back to screw with us.

Louis having his necromancer buddy nearby in the event things went south, especially when those powers in being able to heal near fatal wounds was already explored prior, *isn't* a Deus Ex Machina.

The actual issue is some of you guys having zero media literacy and being completely unable to remember basic elements of characters.
Honestly, more annoyed with the follow up, with the saint proving that she's an insane powerhouse only to die off 3 seconds later.
i also thought it was a bit dumb that louis "survived" rather than say i dont know being reanimated from his NECROMANCER minion? it would have made a lot more sense than "Somehow Louis has survived"
The only part of the Zorba thing that sounded silly was "Anatomy is my specialty, we thought someone might try to stab him through the heart, so we conveniently changed where it is in his body." Imagine if you'd aimed for the head and discovered Zorba'd relocated Louis's brain to his ass.

It was absolutely ingenious of him to count on you not mortally wounding him, the several story fall not killing him, his omnipotent powergaming follower both having an opportunity to hide him and save him, and for nobody to question the word of the incredibly evil looking dude who joined up last week who's handling the lance.

Or, alternatively, it's just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ terrible writing and none of it remotely makes sense if you think about it even a little bit.

Are you sure? Last time I've seen game Zorba said that "Heart wasn't damaged". While your character rips his own heart from the very same place, but hole is smaller.
Generally story writer is very bad. You finally see that protag does something bad makes some people to pity poor bastard with lance in the chest, but then turn them into caricature villain. Once again person who became general and was strong and smart doing something like killing innocent just because of what? He thought that he'll get location of prince? While they've already ready to fight to death with him? What a joke.

You are wrong. Not sure if there is difference between English and Japanese version but text is
"I knew at first glance that the wound was deep, but the heart was intact"

The deus ex machina. The deus ex machina? Louis's right hand man is a NECROMANCER. Use your ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ brain.

A necromancer I killed during the Prologue tho.
And yes, "coming back" is an okay concept but when you pull this 3 times (Necro 1 times/ Louis fake-dead 2 times) that's just stupid writing in my book.

No you didn't. You saw him falling that he himself did. You never killed him. You just assumed the fall killed him.

Yes why would we ever assume a guy that you beat at the end of the first dungeon and jumped off a 5000000 km tall church would be dead. Idk if necromancy would be capable of resisting terminal velocity

i am 100% sure you didn't call out the real curse caster and you still don't know who it was.
I am sorry if it surprised you, but I figured out who the actual curse caster was in that character's second appearance, easy. The clues were there.

I'm thinking "Where were her wings then?" She's got six wings, Maria's only half that race and she's younger than Rella was when she put the curse on the prince and she already has two little wings, why didn't Rella have any wings in the cut scene? Why isn't there a big scar across her back? Wouldn't it have damaged her wings? Why mention slash across the back if the big reveal isn't going to be seeing a big scar?

The in-game section on the Race tells you the answer. The 'wings' are just decorative feathers only. The entire Ishkia race has vestigial feather clumps that grow out where long ago they presumably once had wings, but now they are just like people who grow their hair long for fashions sake. they aren't actually wings, just long and well cared for feather streams.

It's actually a big insult to derisively mention that Ishkia can't actually fly.

Any member of the Ishkia can basically remove them and regrow them, and it's easier to hide doing this when young. I think they don't as a racial tribal identity thing, they are proud of them and consider them beautiful. (It's most likely culturally frowned upon to remove them similarly to dwarves and beards.)

Also, Maria only has two of them because she's a halfblood. Half Ishkia (on her mothers side) and half Rhoag from Grius.
I agree, that entire section was probably some of the weakest writing.

Layers of plot armour for Louis, which ends in an anti-climatic defeat of Forden and a fairly dull anime drama for Rella and Junah (but it's okay, they love each other really). It was fairly cringe.

I had initially thought they'd gone against the trope and expectations of JRPG story-telling by killing Louis there and then, and was half expecting the game to pivot to a huge battle between the MC's party vs the church under Forden (basically Forden letting his mask slip in public), which would have been pretty interesting, but instead it squandered the opportunity.

It isn't game-ending for me, but it was a bit of a rubbish sequence of events IMO.
