Does the story get any better?
Playing through the demo... its ok. The serious tone of Persona is just not there yet. I loved the allegorical nature of Persona 5 with different castles and "sins" depicted on a rather good level writing-wise combined with light hearted usual anime stuff.

With Metaphor it feels like a very cliche fantasy good vs evil with not much depth so far. Gameplay might be good but an anime rpg stands and dies with its story for me. Whats your impression of the story after 20 - 30h so far?

Honestly, the story is probably the weakest element. The setting is great, the characters are great, the combat is great, but the story mostly ranges from standard rpg fare to eye-roll inducing. I guess I'm more liking the lore than the story. How we became the "tribes" and what the "humans" actually are. Their designs being based on the work of that one artist is definitely a highlight, and the soundtrack is one of the most memorable for an RPG I've heard in years.

But beyond all that, I find myself skipping 90% of the text because it's rare your choices have consequences. Sometimes this is honestly annoying. One instance that comes to mind is when you infiltrate Louis's ship and reach the bridge, you're given three options on how to deal with it. Which you pick doesn't matter, because all three are wrong so the order is irrelevant, you just *have* to give three wrong answers before a fourth wrong answer gives Gallica an idea that's basically just doing one of your previous answers she rejected.

I find myself caring about some of the characters, Stohl and Heismay have motivations and personalities easy to empathize with for me. The storyline with the let's say, killer baby Human, that was interesting. It at least subverted my expectations. That entire level I kept thinking "It's hidden in shadow because when we actually see it, it's not going to be scary at all, right? It's gonna turn out to be an adorable monster." And then we finally see it and we're told it's been eating all the missing children, and it's bib is covered in blood, and it's jaw distends to reveal rows of sharp teeth and a giant, dagger-like prehensile tongue, and one of the mechanics of the fight is repeatedly poking out it's eyes so we fight it for periods with two bloody eyesockets I can say I was a little taken aback. But the reality is most of the time I'm pointing skip through dialog to rush to the dungeon crawling. They really outdid themselves with the combat system in this game.

Most game stories have linear narratives, nor did this game ever advertise itself "your choices matter" I don't get why you need this game to have dialogue options that change the stories narrative towards something else.

This complaint is like looking at a platformer game and complaining that it needs guns you can shoot with.

Oh no, i get it. I am saying the dude is making it seem like its incredibly strenuous to play it. If he has that much contempt for it, just don't play it. It really is that simple. Just literally play anything else if it seems like ReFantazio is a waste of his time. I just threw in by extension you're wasting equally as much time on anything else as a point.

Its like "awww damn shucks this game makes me wanna crush my bawls when i play it, let me pull out the 25 pounder and drop it from the second floor and crush my bawls"

I guess out of pure personal obligation you can finish it, I finished EO1 and EO2, and i can confidently say those games are pretty awful compared to 3. Personally I think its a bit wild, considering ReFantazio is actually pretty good. With that being said, it can be a matter of perspective as well. I would say ReFantazio is great narrative game, but a great 'game' game its arguable as flawed in a variety of areas.
You say that like i AM playing it. I'm not, i clearly said this when talking about kotor and fallen order.

They probably expected the old SMT style before V and your choices matter there or some like CRPG. But unfortunately when it comes to the newer Persona games choices matter hardly. Aside from a select few, Metaphor does have alternate endings though, if you make bad choices at pivotal points. But it seems more like a point to be made during said points.

The story is one beer short of a six pack.

You don't play so you can't engage in forum discussion is a good way of ensuring your opinion is quite honestly irrelevant. I'm interested in discussing the game not playing lil bro. Unsubscribe from life lol

I mean I still dont get the special need to have every game have non linear narratives, otherwise how could you ever enjoy stories from media that aren't video games. Even if games have the benefit of player interaction to enable that ability, that doesn't mean every game needs to have nonlinear narratives. And again Persona nor did this game ever advertise itself on "your choices matter".

Also lmao I saw someone complain that this game's choices don't matter, when most game stories are literally linear narratively, aside from a few multiple endings (which Metaphor also has)
I wouldn't say it's bad but tropes can be pretty annoying tbf. It's like every anime having specific characters for tropes. (Tsundere, yandere etc) it's fine at first but you see it enough and you want originality and new stuff not just samey tropes. (Ngl i don't really care as long as the story is good) i get the issue though personally

Its just the format I am pretty sure they make plenty of other games that do, so their expectations were disappointed. Im just guessing.

Yeah but you are not saying anything at all though. Its fine to discuss the game, but Valve will lock the thread if its a not productive and then you prevent others from having any genuine or healthy discussion.

Like go talk about KOTOR and Fallen Order in their discussion forums you’d probably have more fun there.

Odd considering you're the one who keeps bringing this ♥♥♥♥ up, I'm trying to discuss tropes with the guy above and you're crying lil fella. If you really believed in what you were saying you'd stop, like I'm trying to do but you keep bringing us back with a new and inventive method.

You literally replied and I was just replying back, and then i gave a few suggestions. If anything youre equally as much instigating it. Even right now with that reply. You instigated then discussed tropes and played “oh man i was trying to move on”. Lay off the fent bro, its bad for you. Tbh you can probably lay off the Star Wars EA games too tbh

Well yeah now I am just messing around now. Anyways play Republic Commando. Pretty good Star Wars game and the story is pretty good as well. Though its a kinda wonk FPS and dated. Its kinda funny when old star wars games are sorta like shovelware back then but semi-fun. Like Podracer which is basically SW F-Zero and still fun. Though idk how playable the official PC version is. You might need to just find other means to play it
