Does the story get any better?
Playing through the demo... its ok. The serious tone of Persona is just not there yet. I loved the allegorical nature of Persona 5 with different castles and "sins" depicted on a rather good level writing-wise combined with light hearted usual anime stuff.

With Metaphor it feels like a very cliche fantasy good vs evil with not much depth so far. Gameplay might be good but an anime rpg stands and dies with its story for me. Whats your impression of the story after 20 - 30h so far?

Yes it will get better, the story is very good.

I would say persona's game has deeper story cause it includes psychology knowledge which I studied psychology and I love persona, but Metaphor is also a good game. I enjoy so much. The game is the whole story talking about peace and diversity with a fantasy theme. At least it looks like that to me. New gameplay features also added comparing to persona, like the front or back formation, which needs to think more than persona games. I played persona 3r, 4g, 5s and 5r. They are all good games. If you are tired of persona series. Metaphor will be another game you will want to play.
If you like the game demo, or feels ok with it. I think you will love the full game. I enjoy so much now. Remember to choose hard on the first playthrough, anything below hard is just too easy. The hard mode is just adding one more turn to the enemies instead of raising their stats. I hate those games' hard mode are raising stats, metaphor isn't like that.

I'm not entirely sure where you could get the notion it's good vs evil from.
I mean Louis is 100% evil so is the leaders of the church so its easy to see where he is coming from
Louis want's to abolsih the caste system, and the church helps the weak.
In turn, Louis uses violence to get to the utopia, and the church is corrupt.

I think you people are not intelligent enough if you miss something that basic.

Persona 2 is the real ♥♥♥♥ (government conspiracies and real demons) but P3-4-5 are more wishy washy it's all in your head stuff.

Metaphor is a fantasy story but the stakes are real, racism is happening, people are being massacred and there's a debate on the political system/how to treat people.

There is a lot of allegory in this game as well. The game is called 'Metaphor', after all.
P5 made most of the allegories extremely obvious so anyone could pick up on them.

This game's writing is more appreciative towards players with more experience in life or wisdom. It leaves many of the allegories and depth of meaning, in plain sight for the player to figure out on their own.

Whereas in comparison the Persona games try to make the wisdom or life lessons you can learn from it, as accessible to everyone as possible.

Do you have selective memory? There are a lot of moments in Persona games where the games arent remotely serious and the cast often likes to mess around. On top of that, someone rarely dies or has something bad happen to them on screen. (instead of being talked about as past pre-game occurance)

In Metaphor you already see 2 people get killed in front of the protagonist in the intro.
There's some brutal scenes later on in the game. Outside of that, the cast doesnt joke around and if they have issues with each other it will be over things that actually matter. This game is a lot more serious then the Persona games ever were.

In terms of seriousness or depth, this game is basically Persona with the Kid Gloves off.

I feel like it’s very forward in describing everything and is even more straight forward and hand holdy in its narrative then ever. It tells you the exact emotion the theme is based on constantly (basically powering through anxiety) and hides nothing it seems.

Persona 3 was super intriguing and fascinating with a big mystery as to what the hell was happening and was very mature in tone but just written way better imo.

Metaphors art is amazing as is it’s gameplay but the game so far just feels like a bunch of tropes pasted onto eachother that I’ve seen a thousand times already.

I actually find it the reverse, Persona 3 was made to look mature and edgy but it's really not, in comparison to Persona 2.

Metaphor is EDGY and mature at the same time, which is more in line with MegaTen, it's not a just in your head/small town issue.
I got about 30 hours in on ps5 and honestly I'm playing kotor and fallen order again lmao. Atlus story telling doesn't even remotely do it for me anymore. P3,4 and 5. Smt v. Even nocturne (tbf i didn't get 20 hours in even)

Even for anime it feels very eh. I'd not bother if you didn't like the demo. Go play trails in the sky for a real jrpg experience tbh (and then cry when you get to modern trails because it's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ♥♥♥♥ now)

That's sad to hear.

I try to get into the Kiseki series many times but the setting never hook me, it's simply not edgy enough.

Tbh that's why I like it. (It does get a little edgy) for the most part sky is just about estelle and joshua getting stronger, doing their own thing and developing their characters. It's one of my favourite game stories simply because their relationship was so well written imo.

And if the devs could stop doing the tita + agate romance and keep it siblings that'd be lovely. But like I said, modern trails is ♥♥♥♥.

Nocturne’s story telling isnt clear its very abstract but it is very good.

Shame you never finished it, when it comes to overall execution it is great.

Yeah I did want to but holy ♥♥♥♥ random battle encounters. I'd rather scrape my foreskin into a fine paste than do that again lmao.

Even better when there's rbe between fusion room and save room 😭

I wish they'd remaster that rather than peesona 3 or smt VenPISS

It has every other overused, unhealthy trope that the Japanese industry is built upon, but then it has some fresh and non trope-y concepts. The question is - are you willing to cringe through the former, to witness the rest? I'm perservering so far.

Only? 😔

I'd consider it again but I'm just not much of a turn based person anymore tbh
