Should you just buy this game when the "royal" version comes out..?
I feel like, Atlus has been making these golden or royal versions like a year after each title..with all the best stuff in it. I currently do not have much time to play this as is, so ...why shouldnt we all just wait for the "complete" version? And does that mean most of you intend to buy booth?

It's my first time playing an Atlus game but Metaphor:ReFantazio was a fantastic experience!

If they sell a new improved version I might buy it, I don't know...

What could they add? I don't know, the game is almost perfect right now!

So no one buys the first version we dont get a royale version is that hard to comprehend?

Ill buy both simply because Atlus made a good game.

I felt a bit...annoyed that I bought SMT5 and then they came out with whatever that Definitive one was, like 6 months later...so.. I dunno. If this will be a regular pattern, I feel like maybe it is worth waiting because, I cant hardly think of any game ive bought twice that wasnt retro or something.

Hopefully they are moving to DLC expansions, as with P3R.

Though even if they do an expanded rerelease, I wouldn't personally regret getting this day one rather than waiting a couple of years, as I've been looking forward to this since it was announced.

Im in the same boat as you, not as much time as I used to.

I played Shin Megami Tensei V on the switch when it first came out and then found out by Vengeance earlier this year. While I love Vengeance, I do feel a little slighted because there was no a la carte way to get the new version on the switch. Vengeance was available at full price, I ended up getting it on Steam because there was no incentive to get it on switch. The experience definitely makes me wary of getting atlus games immediately.

Atlus will definitely come out with an objectively better version of this game 2 or 3 years from now and remove this version of Metaphor from digital stores.

I recommend trying the free demo. and use that to gauge whether you need to play the game now or fine waiting for that objectively better version.

Most remakes or releases of SNES , PS1, and SEGA Genisis games. like FFT, Valkyrie Profile, ...Secret mana, old FF Legends. Nothing modern I guess.

They are. Sega want to push those season passes.

Ya im sure they've had a lot of success with these royal/golden versions so...should expect the same here, sadly.

If you're short on time or in no rush to play it now, yes, by all means just wait. Pretty good chance you'll get a better version of the game for the same price with the ridiculous DLC packed in by default before too long.

I totally get this mentality, because it sort of *does* feel like they release them 6 months apart, but I think the shortest space between one of these games and their "golden/royal" version was SMTV and SMTV Vengeance, which was just short of 3 years apart. P4 took nearly 4 years, and P5 took almost exactly 3. I think the sense that the time between releases is much shorter than it is has to do with the fact they tend to release a major game and a couple of spin offs between one game and its golden/royal version (and what we know about Persona 6 suggests that it will come out in 2025 or '26, and then a Metaphor Royal version a year or so after that).

You're looking for P3 and FES, which was just a gap of 8-9 months, even in Japan. That's the only time they've genuinely really spat on people for initially supporting them. Well, that and the remake, where they sold you nearly 20 year old content for $70 and cut some out to sell you later.

Success doesn't mean money. Doing a golden version requires paying the dev studio to actually dev. With a season pass you can just pay the intern to palette flip some assets and call it a day. One gets you far more profit than the other ....

Atlus have stated they're pursuing a path similar to what they've done with P3R in future, though specifically they were talking about P6 it's likely they'd apply it to Metaphor too. Sega have already said they're looking to shift to a smaller DLC more often style model (alongside naming Persona, Like a Dragon and Sonic as franchises they want to go annual, so it's likely we'll start seeing Atlus following the Ryu Ga Gotoku model; release a mainline title, follow up with a few spin offs, rinse repeat).
