Sci-fi Metaphor
Now that they have done medieval fantasy, wonder if they can make a space age RPG as a spin-of

Guantlet runners are spaceships
Archetypes are mechs that the character pilots
You explore different planets
Demons are aliens in space or are actually demons from outter space

What do you think? I think there's not much sci-fi RPG, you have Xenoblade but that's more like Star Ocean instead of a full scale space adventure like Infinite Space or Xenosaga.

I'm not against it but I'm not sure if mecha Archetypes/Personas would work as well. Archetypes and Personas can be summoned from nothing. How are you going to take 10 to 30 mechs around? Also these games are a lot about people's spirits, growing stronger from connections. Cant be done that well with machines.

Maybe I just lack the fantasy to imagine it though, hehehe. Sure, if ATLUS can figure it out, it could be fun.

Eh, just see how Xenosaga does it.
The characters are still mech pilots (so they are still human size), but they can have their mechs to do specific/special attacks while the characters still have normal attacks in dungeon, and certain battles are just straight out giant mechs duking it out.

Or better, they just pilot their giant mechs and be a fully mecha RPG (where the mech collection replace the Archetype collection.

EDIT: About the whole taking 10-30 mechs around, well, let's just say the spaceship runner has a big hangar.

Yeah, I could have imagined that part. I don't have a problem with that but...

Persona game lets the main character to change Persona on a fly. Metaphor lets you change Archetype whenever outside of a combat.

If you had the sci-fi game like this, how do they change the mech every few moments? Is the "spaceship" dropping new mech every time we change it? Or would we be locked into the mech for the whole dungeon? That feels like taking away the flexibility.

Maybe you find it silly I hang on the "logistics" part of the game, but the thing is there is no logistics problem in Persona and Metaphor, and no complicated explanation necessary as to why we can do what we do.

Maybe selecting a mech for the whole dungeon could be fun in terms of preparation, that we have to be even more careful. But for me it would be taking away the gameplay feature I quite enjoy. Not saying it would be a bad game, just this on paper appeals to me less than being able to change the Persona/Archetype as I want.

Ah yeah, I see what you mean.

Honestly they could do the Doraemon-thing where mechs can be miniaturzed, or they can teleport them in, or they have different kits that can be changed mid-dungeon.

I still think it can be done, depending on the way devs want it to work.

I'd like to see it, but the upcoming Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition on Switch is definitely enough to fill the void for me in the meantime.

Seriously that game only being on the Wii U until now is a crying shame.

I never play that game, it has actual mechs right?

A shame that it's still mostly on a planet, I want a true space adventure where you have spaceships and bridge crew.

I'd suggest it very much, and yes the mechs (Skells as they're called in game) are a major component of the game in both exploration and combat, albeit one that you work towards rather than being right out the gate just as a heads up (I'd say you get access to them right around the 1/3rd mark give or take? It's been a while since I played it).

You remember the A.G.W.S system of Xenosaga 1? Think kind of like that but more fleshed out and integrated to the overall game. Though as a heads up it is the Xenoblade gameplay systems (realtime movement/cooldowns) rather than turn based in case that's a deal breaker.

Makes sense, it is a successor to Xenosaga.

But yeah I'd prefer a turn-based combat system.

Fair enough, I just wanted to mention it because it does give hope imo that there's a solid market for Sci-Fi RPGs and to spread the word about it in case anyone was interested since Nintendo just randomly announced it on a Tuesday with no fanfare.

I will probably get it but when it's on the Switch 2.

Studio Zero (Zero Talent?) couldn’t handle medieval fantasy competently, so there's no way they’d be able to tackle sci-fi settings now.

Okay, how so? I thought they handled the medieval fantasy just fine, though I only played the demo and haven't bought the game yet, so there is that.
