Atlus should offer a AI translation as DLC.
Do not alienate your fans Atlus, give us the choice to have an alternate translation hopefully machine translated with someone checking for coherency and not to add their agenda into it.

I refuse to play the current version of the game but will buy and play if a Different AI translation is offered. Having the choice will always be better than not having it. Do it Atlus.

What is this even about? What agenda?

Some people believe in conspiracy that game translators are mistranslating Japanese games to "push agenda" usually propagated by people who have no idea how translating works, and think that literal word for word translation is always correct, regardless of cultural meaning.

A machine translation is preferable to the woke translator with an agenda we got and ruined the game, until the AI translation option or a mod is added, I refuse to purchase this game.

The translator of this game made some pretty serious "woke" changes but not in Atlus games, it was some kind of anime of which I don't remember the name. That's why every work of that translator get's the "woke" stigma regardless if it is or isn't actually "woke".

Still, paying for a machine translation DLC is pretty desperate. Especially that all the "proof of wokeness" in case of this game was very arguable.

The Japanese script sucks compared to the English one, an AI translation would just make that more apparent

As someone who's played games with ai translation you're ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ wrong. Ai translation is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful. Go play some random porn game with one. See how far you get before you're met with absolute nonsense.

It is a proven fect that in some cases certain japanese games, manga and anime had alterations made by localizers that heavily change scenes or characters (or just inserted messagin that wasn't there). But in case of metaphor I haven't seen any real evidence of that so far (not that really I looked for it).

Guy thinks AI can't have a bias, based on the material used to train it.

He clearly wasn't around when google and twitter and bing kept trying to make ai chatbots.

Only for them ALL to start being racist lmao
What gets me is less the bias of machine translators and just the potential for loss of meaning or alteration of nuance which could harm players' understanding and appreciation of the original work. Of coarse, there are those who would feel that bad translation is still preferable to even the potential of biased translation, and I think that's still a valid position to have. But I think the solution should be for gaming communities to work out a system for validating translations rather than automatically politicizing them.

This is absurdly dumb.
I don’t know about Altus but as a final fantasy fan, they very often have purposefully changed the translation to English to make it less mature. Why? Probably because the company thinks that western audiences won’t take the mature stuff well and it will sell less.

Very often it’s sexual or brutal references that are removed. For some reason the Japanese are way less shocked at mentions of things like rape and other things. In FF16 they removed such a reference and made it a more generic thing.

Mistranslation on purpose is a thing. Though it doesn’t usually change the whole gist of the story, but it’s still often a softening of how the dialogue is.

It’s jarring because I speak French and often the Japanese to French dialogue is uncensored in gaming and anime and I can see the difference with English and it’s jarring. For example there will often be downright swearing in Japanese that won’t be swearing in English.

Safe to say this is no longer a Japanese game only problem.

Look at DA: Veilguard's French and German translation where they insery in muh gender neutral languages that aren't recognized by the actual French and German.

It is clear this is a part of Cultural Imperialism by the Anglo-saxons who want to shape the world by their rules, even in language.

OP is free to do an AI translation mod, no?

I am surprised that there is so much controversy over this game's translation when SMTVV has the same stuff and got away unscathed.
