You reboot the game when you get ambushed? Damn, you must really dislike bad situations. I'd recommend playing on easy difficulty, you won't run into any problems when you get ambushed that way. (':
Running from battle seems virtually impossible in this game. Of all the RPGs I've ever played, it is the least forgiving in this regard. It's always faster to just reboot and reload the auto-save.

running virtually always works unless you have nowhere to run (difficulty setting doesnt matter). on the off chance it fails, just restart the battle and do it again
