How does it work.

I check the travellers notes or whatever its called and Strohl Hulkenberg and Brigitte should all be available but none of em are available for me?
I just unlocked Brigitte and she is lvl1 so she should be available for me if she is for others? Is it random what days they are available in this game? In Persona there was a fixed schedule.
I got Strohl at 3 and hulkenberg at 2 so far having hung out with em whenever it was possible so far.

I haven't been totally keeping track, but it seems like Followers are only available on certain days of the week, as well as Brigitta being a night time only rank up.

Cause it most certainly says hung out with briggite during the day?! Very odd!
Well i did the sidequest and bounty now and next day no one is available again so i guess i just try ot improve some virtues...

I got Brigitte and Strohl to 3 which is prob the max for em dont know.

Many of those points are date gated, for example, after you progress Hulk to tier2 she'll just not interact with you until after you come back with Heismay during act2 and she can only be interacted with during travel at the runner, same with Strohl at lv 3. So, when you get to Martira, pick every available quest AFTER Heismay joins your group, then they should be available during runner travel.

Briggita can be interacted with almost without restraints every night until she hits tier 7, at that point she'll remain locked until the very end of the game. To unlock it, you have to start her line by having 2 points in courage and completing the quest she gives you. You can potentially get her to tier 7 before the second act in Martira is over. If she is indeed tier 1 as you say, they she should in theory pester you during nights, but if you don't get the prompt when starting a night, then you can scroll through your supporter list, if they have a red icon hovering over their portraits, then they are available even if you aren't prompted to talk to them. If their icon is greyed out, then that means there's a date lock, or that specific interaction can only happen during runner travel or because you haven't met a "quality" requirement, like courage or wisdom.

Also some L8 like merchant are gated to the very last chapter even though there is no actual story reasons for it.

Follower availabity is based on a bunch of factors.

Some are date gated (Gallica for example is purely date gated)
Some are Virtue level gated
Some of the Party ones (and at least one of non-party ones) are only available while you are travelling on your Runner during non-story forced trips. (ie on the way to a town or a dungeon)

Yeah right now i find Bardon not available either seems its gated behind something as well.
