JRPG is an incredibly diverse genre. What do you like?

It is indeed, the One.

If you really liked the JRPGs of old, I think you'll enjoy this. It's a really strong game.

If you like visual novels with very little li e gameplay, and like a visual novel, having to play it many times to unlock everything, ok.

Of you want an adult jrpg, dragon quest 3hd, granblue fantasy relink, or monster hunter stories 2, all played recently and good.

Last JRPGs i played were things like Lufia II and Chrono Trigger.
Interested to see how the genre has developed.
I'll give this a go; appreciate the responses.

No, it's not the one. Story is mediocre, dungeon design is awful and repetitive, only like 2 of your party members are interesting and outside of typical fantasy archetypes, you can do better.

Definitely not the one if you're looking for a traditional JRPG.
This has Visual Novel elements like modern Persona games aimed at permavirgins.

Just replay Chrono Trigger if you want the good stuff.

If you like Lufia II, I'd sooner point you to Grandia or Trails in the Sky.

While this game does have some sense of adventure to it, I don't see why people are praising this game too much for reinventing JRPGs. It has a dash of SMT sprinkled into a Persona-lite life simulator game loop. If you've played Etrian Odyssey there's a few fun references in there, but if you HAVEN'T played Etrian Odyssey I'd absolutely push you in that direction instead. Ultimately this game is for fans of Atlus JRPGs, or for players who haven't played more than a handful of games. I believe that's the target audience.

First one I've gotten addicted to in years. I've been trying to find one I can't stop playing, this is it

Agreed. I'm a JRPG fanatic and it's the first AAA title I've enjoyed in many years.

Appreciate the responses.
I'm going to try this out later tonight.
Will also take a look at the other titles recommended.

I'm interested in trying the genre's modern masterpiece experiences.

This is the real answer, if it HAS to be a jrpg maybe try FF remake, it's casual but i can't come up with something good released recently.
