Loved this game, didn't like Persona. Recommendations?

I LOVED this game. I really did not like P5:Royale, and I think it was because of the social sim part. I like banging music, combat, maybe some light sim (like Metaphor did a good job on it imo), and more combat! I love a good story too, but I get that won't always be the case.

What other games would you recommend that are turn-based like this? Thank you =)

Sounds like you would enjoy Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2, but it isn't turned based nor are there any sims in it.

Id go other Shin Megami Tensei games then. Not really any sim elements its very focused on its dungeons and combat. SMT V Vengeance recently released and that was a much better version of SMT V. Choose the Vengeance route the og route has no plot. If you have a 3DS SMT IV and IV Apoc are a lot of fun (I really want it ported!). You can try nocturne but it didnt age the best and there are long stretches without plot. Digital Devil Saga is also a really good SMT game with a lot of focus on the plot and good hand crafted dungeons. The random encounter rate is really bad tho. There are some cheats to help but theyve always been janky to activate for me.

Meguro composed DDS and Nocturne who also composed P5R and Metaphor
Kozuka composed SMT IV and V. They're both fantastic.

Most SMT games have the same press turn system as Metaphor. Persona has like a baby version of it.

Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance. It even has more freedom, open area and darker story.

Persona is just too dumb down in every way except more story subject to taste.

You can also try Draqon Quest series. DQ11 was the most recent release in the main series. And a remake of DQ3 in HD-2D is coming out in a few days. These games have good combat and music but generally have a more light-hearted story.

You can play Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, the graphics are butt by modern standards but it's a turn base cult classic

I would recommend the Trails series. It is long running series with a focus on story and world building. It has really great music through out the games and if the combat clicks with you in the first games you'll have a blast whole series.

If you are interested in the story of the series I would recommend starting with the first one:

Check out other SMT games as people have said, not all my peak your fancy but they typically have the same battle system with no sim elements and a barely there but enough to be fun stories.
