The stories are connected as in the first game...is first. But it really doesn't matter since basically everything from that game isn't in the second. This is like a totally different game...besides the 2 at the end...

ASM2 does something weird for a movie tie-in. In that it doesn't follow the movie's plot really closely, and instead treats the previous ASM game as canon and follows that story (while ASM2 the movie obviously does not).

In summary, you should play it because it is a better game. The stories are connected, but ASM1 the game is just a more polished product.

I do not understand ASM2's plot...unlike ASM1 which was after the movie this game is before AND during the movie...it's...so...STUPID! All this hype for the web swinging which is nothing new and it still goes to the sky...it just goes to the left...or right of the sky...

The swinging connects to buildings now and is not coming from the sky (except for sometimes in Central Park)
