How annoying is the Hero/Menace system?
Pretty much one of the only that is making me want the first game more than this is the Hero/Menace system. Gameplay that I've seen makes it seem like if you don't do the side missions all the time you'll get drones coming after you. Does this go away at the end of the game or anything? Also, even with that aside, is the first or second game better?

It doesn't go away (by the end of the game it gets kinda silly to) and you can't turn it off. You can replay some missions that freeze them out while you free roam a bit.

Personally once the game is finished I find I muck about, collect and explore and when it gets bad but do some side stuff with the vigilante suit. I don't mind the H/M myself, in fact it's fun to let it slide until you are hunted (gives it that spidey feel with robots randonly hunting you).

No denying thought it's an amazingly bad mechanic though I can see why it would annoy but then I go it cheap, I get what they were going for in providing something more in the world but that someone didn't say "no this is terrible we need to think again" is incredible. It's broke no doubt so buy cheap but have a look certainly. Still has a brillaint swing mehanic better than TAS1 and combined with web look (even with the H/M) it's gret to fling yourself around.

As for which is better, I'd say both have flaws but both are enjoyable.

Actually its very fun to me it keeps you busy for those that owned TASM 1 after you beat the game there isn't anything to do no crime nothing. In this one you have to keep fighting crime I don't know why people cry so much. Everyone asked to have random crime now everyone is crying about it since they got it. Don't listen to most trolls that says it's annoying it really beats roaming around a city with no crime.

having random crime is not the problem, its the negative effects when you dont do constant heroing that are the problem. sometimes you just wanna swing and you cant for any decent length of time.

That's pretty much why I'm unsure about getting this over the first.

Honestly, dude, I think the hero/menace system makes it a true spider-man game. Think about how the real spider-man would deal with all of those crimes. He isn't just swinging around doing spidey stuff; he's swinging as fast as he can to each and every crime to prevent it or stop it. And it's nearly impossible to get to all of them, at least for me but that might be because I selected the superhero difficulty, but I'm not sure if that has any affect on the crime rate, so it makes for a real spider-man experience because you know that you have the responsibility to stop all of these crimes, but you don't have enough time. It's like actually being spider-man, you have to decide if these everyday crimes that the public will know you did or didn't do are more important than the secret missions that you do out of the public eye. The secret missions may be more important to the storyline and may have a bigger impact on the city in the long run but you have to think about just how devastating the smaller crimes are to the people of the city

I agree that it makes it more like what a real Spider-man would deal with but I want to be able to swing around without having to be bothered by the hero/menace system.

I would be fine with the H/M system if they executed it properly. A few ideas on how to improve the system:
  • Remove the annoying loading screens, stream the crime in (I want to see a burning building I can directly interact with, not jump on a fire truck and wait for the same mission to load 24/7)
  • Remove the news report OR atleast move them to the phone: crime is done -> a small phone overlay near your map plays the crime report without interrupting gameplay
  • WAY more variety (so the crimes don't feel the same -> different models for peds/mobs etc., different vehicles + maybe let some crimes change from on foot to vehicle escape etc)
  • More crimes, examples:
--> Kid being bullied, your pure presence stops the "crime" (just like the movie scene)
--> Purse/shop lifting (some thief runs out of a shop or snatches a purse, obtain the stolen goods and return them)
  • Add weight to the individual crimes. I should not be punished for ignoring a "cat on a tree" when I decide to go for a burning building
  • Remove the lame private army that hunts me down, they remind me of flying robots and I hate flying robots. It'd be enough if the citizens hate me as a menace and the cops occasionally try to arrest me by shooting at me/following me in a cop car/helicopter (should be easy to lose the cops though).
  • Limit the amount of active crimes at any time (it's simply impossible to reach a crime south of NYC in time if you're currently north of NYC) or atleast add an indicator that displays the time until the crime disappears.

The main problem with the H/M system is that the overall open world mechanics suck. The crimes are repetitive and incredibly boring after 30 minutes (because you've pretty much seen them all).
I think it would be fine with some tooling, like the meter needs to drain a LOT slower. I have no problem with doing 3-5 vigilante missions throughout the course of a day, but if you max the bar out to hero then free roam, you'll be menace again in the next hour. It's horrible.

Does anyone know of a trainer or tool that can disable the hero/menace system?
Datsurb Sep 6, 2014 @ 12:25pm
It is still there so you will always be active when it comes to crime.
please yes... i need a trainer or mod to slow it down a notch or 2

(Yeah, yeah, this topic was only on the 2nd page, so don't get your panties in a wad about necro'ing.)

I would have LOVED this feature of the game had they limited the random events to spawn only near you instead all the way across the city most of the time.

I've started this game recently, and I must say that it's not really big of a deal at all. But that's just me. Also if you are a 1994 spiderman cartoon fan like myself, you would see that this is actually pretty accurate for spiderman's situation. I don't think you would lose reputation if you don't attend the side quests. There is plenty of time to reach to the next main mission spot before any of the crimes go off. But if you try to waste time in the city freeroaming, you just might lose reputation. Always remember, great power comes with great responsibility ;)
Have a good swinging.

PS: Btw, my only real complaint about this game is that, rappell somehow doesn't work while on the ceiling. And I don't know why. I wonder if there's anyone who knows something that could help me with that.
Other than that, the game has improvements on the gameplay level upon first amazing spiderman game, I think.

Yeah, apparently, I spoke/complained too soon. After Mission 4 (or thereabouts) where that goon squad is introduced to hunt you down if go anti-hero, these random crimes now pop up all over the city, so it's not terribly rare to find one close by to your present location.
