How high can you price your items?
Should we stay at, below, or can we go above the market price? How does that work exactly?

There was a highly mathematical Post here written by someone working in Sales who said the best Price Balance in general is 10% above Market Value. It increases your Profit without making too many Costumers complain

Hmmmm, I will try 10%. I've been keeping everything at exactly market value, but that's because I'm always going for a "perfect day" where everyone finds what they need and no one complains about price. I still make enough money to progress that way.

I also prefer it that customers never complain. I set my prices to 3% over market and I've gotten one complaint in several in-game weeks. So I figure 3% is my personal sweet spot.

Thats quite helpful as I read it. But it doesnt address the games' mechanics, it only goes into real life pricing which works until the game has something thats different from real life, like the price being too high has an effect on a sim different than it would on a real player, and since the data is only 3 in-game days deep, its helpful but not quite complete.

I'll be doing some experimentations to get it perfect because theres quite a lot of factors, one of which is having your store perfectly stocked and ran so sales is never an issue with customers getting access.

Im just curious of exactly where the perfect price lies because its just a simple formula behind the scenes, whatever it is, so its got to be something we can learn and not guess at.

It doesnt really matter where You price the items at, with the Lock on how many customers You can get a day locked at 60, that factor also basically locks the amount you can gross in one day since the customers are predetermined and what they are going to buy is also predetermined out of the items you have unlocked, and If one of those items is not available or too expensive, they do not buy something else, that item/s just are not purchased, and so far up to level 70 where I am, there are no products that cost more then $25 ish.. so losing a couple of those potential sales wont break the bank, or.. make You rich if they are always available ( I do not lose any sales and am always 100% stocked in storage for up to 3 days of stock without buying any restock in those 3 days when I am trying to save the next 22k to 72k for a license or expansion)
I have run many consecutive days at market price and at double market price, and the Gross from an average of 56 customers a day earns an average of $5700 regardless of the pricing You set, and it only varies an average of a couple hundred dollars from Market Price to double Market price

I currently run all my store items at 15 cents over market which gives a very small amount of "extra" cash and draws 0 complaints a day, anything over 15 cents draws at least 1 complaint randomly,.. (which honestly the complaints only slow your leveling a very minor amount and hurts mostly when You are lower then level 32 since You are trying to get as many store points as possible as quick as possible, later on the money is the issue, not whether You lose 10 or so store points a day, that is easy to overcome at higher levels since You are ordering more stock generally and you get points from each order) I just like having "clean" days, its just how I play

Highly mathematical? And someone working in sales at that? And all they came up with was to slap a 10% increase on market average?

I go between 5%-7% (with some slight rounding to the nearest +/- 0.05) markup depending on the product (except Yogurt), with minimal complaints. Way less complaints than slapping 10% on everything. And there was no highly mathematical equations involved. Also, I don't work in sales.

Except for Yogurt, this is either false, or you're extremely unlucky. Anything over 15 cents? You're telling me you don't mark Sushi up more than 15 cents?

I mark Nothing, over 15 cents above Market, I do not like complaints .. not because it hurts your store points (which is minimal and not important at higher levels) But ..because thats just how I choose to play .. YES Even Yogurt .. I have that at 15 cents over just like all the other 119 different items in my store .. 0 complaints ,
How am I unlucky ? can You set prices above 15 cents over Market on every item and get 0 complaints every single day ? If so.. please, share how much you mark up and get 0 complaints

If Your ok with complaints and thats how You play.. great, set the price wherever You like ..it doesnt make any major difference at above level 32 really .. until the Dev adds more customers.. Your limited on Gross sales anyhow , so set the prices as high as You like.. with 59 customers the highest I have ever been able to generate in a days gross sales was $5965 at double market price on everything, and making everything 15 cents over, I have generated 5700 with 59 customers .. not a noticeable difference when You need 22k and up for licenses and expansions

I am saying that you're unlucky if you get random complaints for marking anything more than 15 cents above market average. Yes, I can absolutely mark 99% of the products I have on my main store more than 15 cents above. I go on percentages. I find what % works best with certain products and go from there. Cleaning supplies can go 7% above, cheese is best around 5% above for example. More expensive products like Sushi can be marked up more than that, but I still keep it around 7% to avoid complaints. If you're getting complaints for marking that up higher, your customers are more picky than mine. Conversely, if you're marking yogurt 15 cents above market average without complaints, then my customers are more picky. I will get complaints on yogurt if I go more than 5 cents above market average.
The Minted Lady Mar 28, 2024 @ 9:22pm
I do 20 cents over market and I only get about 4 or less complaints a day. When I get consistent complaints on something I'll move it down to 10 cents above market. The yogurt seems to be the main thing people want for super cheap, as well as the bottled water. I will say, though, that at one point I ran my store with most items 50 cents over market, and people were fairly tolerant of the pricing for most of the items. So I'm sure the range of tolerance really depends on the item, but I play this game too casually to try and figure out what it is for each product.
