Dont have to rush things
This. Loans aren't needed in this game, as Guns N Roses says, just a little patience.
Don't expand anything. Start with the stock you can afford each day with the basic starting items, and run that for 10-20 days. Don't over stock. Fill 2 shelves with every item and just ride it out a bit. You'll always have a bit of over stock due to box sizes etc, stock as the day goes.
You'll be sitting on enough cash for the upgrade, a license and the shelves/fridges you need for the licensed items, AND the stock to fill them.
Do it again for another 10 - 20 days. Rinse repeat.
I've been doing this into level 26ish store and I can pretty much upgrade anything I want with cash on hand. There is no competition here, just yourself. Why rush things and always be scraping the bank account for every upgrade or license? That's how I ran my first couple saves and it brought me nothing but frustration cause I wanted to keep it moving and some days couldn't even afford stock for what I had.
It's even easier once you can hire cashiers. (don't forget though you still NEED to run a register from time to time because you need to service x customers to reach the new tier to hire another cashier) I will generally get the store set up for the day, turn the lights on, and go have a smoke, or sweep the kitchen floor, do a few dishes, whatever, while the store runs itself. Come back to 2K profit.
I have only just unlocked the first license, however I should probably have the first expansion to the store by now...
Don't rush it, take your time, the chase is always better than the reward. Once you got your supermarket all gimped out you will just sit there saying "now what"
