I don't know, I just stay open until all the customers are served. Why would you turn down easy money by kicking customers out? Just stay open a few minutes later.

ive noticed a few people come in right after 9pm.
i 'forget' to turn the light to closed hoping more will come in.
i mean the cashiers just stand there while i fill the shelves all night, before the morning order gets placed

You can just stay open and customers keep coming for awhile. I'd say for at least another one or two in-game hours.

I usually make at least $100 - $200 a day staying open until people stop coming in. The time stops at 9pm regardless and doesn't progress no matter how long you take to end the day. Same with being 8am forever until you open your store.

I think they get paid for.

My game just glitched towards the end of the day and I somehow got transported to the attic of the building. Then fell off and through the ground. My total was 12+k when I force stopped the game. When I went back in it was asking me to end the day, but it was 13+k, suggesting I got paid even though I didn't wait for them to go through checkouts.

People don't put any items back on the shelf.
If they pick it up they will go through the cashier and pay for it.

Turning the sign to closed only makes so nobody else can come in, but anyone already inside the store will just go about their business buy the groceries.
