Markup?
How much of a markup should I try to sell items at? I am marking up prices at lest $10 above market price.

If I go more than 30 cents or so people complain it's too expensive

Try and error do 1-2 item high check the feedback and go from there

Everything at $10 higher than market will cause no sales of the cheap items. People will complain it is too expensive.

I mark up $0.15 - $3.00 depending on what the product is. It is trial and error. Mark up items and if you get complaints lower it a bit until you don't.

they tend to start getting complaints at round !0% markup in price

It is a pain but my method is this: Current market price + (current market price X .08). This is an eight percent markup on items and some people still complain but only like 1 or 2 sometimes.

I agree that a percentage increase works better than a flat rate.

Twenty cents on a two dollar soda is 10%. Twenty cents on a $25 package of meat is less than one percent. For the meat, 10% is $2.50, and that adds up quick.

I got 5$ above the large sushi. It still empty the fridge. But keep an eye on everything

$0.40 above market price (to the nearest dime value ignore the penny slot) on every item unless they complain then drop it by $0.10 until they stop.

If you need more money then that ask if people paying with cash want to donate to the build a bigger shop fund and when they pay in cash shortchange them by up to $20.00 especially for someone paying for just a loaf of bread with $100

If their change says $8.xx give them a $5.00 and send them on their way.

If they are asking for change that is not ending in a quarter ask them what vending machine they are going to put it in they will agree with you and say just keep it.

If they do not have pants pockets on ask them if they really want to lug those coins around in their bra all day.

If they do have pants pockets remind them that walking around with sagging jeans due to carrying around all those coins will brings down the property values and will only cause the area to look and feel more ghetto and that you are doing a public service by not giving them all their change.

And if they still give you lip about the change you are keeping for you little project just remind them about their over encumbrance stat and how you are actually helping them to carry more items and with the space they are saving by not carrying coins and spare change they could come back to the shop and still have the space in their inventory to carry more loot.

Ok so you may get called a theif a few times but they will get over it when they walk out the door. And it is not like them calling attention to it forces everyone else in your line at that time to pay with card so go ahead short change people.

Here's my complicated formula for markup

<$5 - round up to the nearest .1 and then add .2
$5 to $10 - round up to the nearest .1 then add .3
$10 to $20 - round up to the nearest .1 then add .5
for the few items over $20, I round up to nearest .1 then add $1

Notice by rounding to nearest .1 first it has everything working in multiples of 10. This means one less button press when checking people out on the CC machine. Leaves me extra valuable time to restock shelves.

I get very few complaints about things being too expensive. I'm level 51 and maybe only get 2 or 3 complaints a day of expensive items.

An 8% - 10% markup on items is a good reference for things. Doing a fixed amount does not make sense as cheaper items would be way too over priced and more expensive items would not be. A sliding scale is needed, and that is where percentages come into play.

I typically see good results with a 10% markup with only a few complaining about it being too expensive.

An 8% markup on items, almost never see anyone complain about it being too expensive.

I'm making around 1.800$ profit per day with price=market price
Market Level=23-25
3 counters and 2 cashiers
5 market expansions bought + 2 warehouse expansions
And as other players have already found out, customers start to complain about to high prices when they are more then 0.10$ higher then the market price.

I have no clue if the game has changed in the past year, but I've sold everything with following formula:
(Market price *2) -40 cents
So for a 5,00$ market price item I will put it up for sale at 9,60$.
For less expensive items, I've been doing even higher, (for example salt) market price 0,5$, my price 0,95$
100% happy customers every day.

Not one chance in hell can you DOUBLE prices, and drop a bit. NONE.

I made a google spreadsheet that allows me to price the items 9% and then round down to t he nearest .25 and so far have 0 complaints.

This is better than just saying "only do $0.30" because once you get over $12 you can safely add a dollar..
wait, am I the only one rounding to whole dollar amounts to make giving change and typing card amounts faster? LOL!! My pricing method is this:

Market price X.00 to X.39 -> I charge X
Market price X.40 to X.99 -> I charge X+1

only a handful of people complain about "too expensive"
