Is this worth getting?
Not to terribly worried about price. I played 2 and loved it. I'm a little confused about the price, also the bundle is charging me for RDR2 while telling me I own it? Is RDR1 as good as the second? Should I pick it up? Is it as open world or is it more of an arena shooter? I'm not super big on this style of game normally so I guess I just want to see that it's similar enough that I want to play it.

Arena shooter? Where on earth did you get that impression from?

Regardless, this game is basically the same as 2 just more simplified and not as refined. If you played GTA 4 back in the day it plays the same pretty much. If you liked the characters and world from 2 id say its definitely worth playing. RDR 2 is a prequel to this one after all. Its still a great game (just not as good as 2) despite how old it is now.

I had my doubts before buying this game just recently, but I have to say that I absolutely love it so far. Sure, it looks like a 2010 game (but it looks decent nevertheless), and RDR2 is superior in almost every aspect (bigger and more diverse map, better and more complex gameplay), but RDR1 is still a damn good game and I enjoy it a lot more than I thought I would. Absolutely no regrets. I also have to admit that I like John in this one a lot more than I did in RDR2...

The writing and voice acting are amazing, as you can expect from a R* title. Some samples:

I think it's more than worth it, I've 100% completed Undead Nightmare and I'm working on finishing some stuff up in the main game now. It's an older game so of course RDR2 will have more attention to detail, better graphics, and more refined gameplay. But I find RDR1 to have a better story and better pacing. I didn't get bored of this game at all while playing it, meanwhile RDR2 I more or less had to force myself to finish it in 30-60 minute increments.

For nostalgia yes absolutely worth it. For just wanting to play for the game itself and not focusing on lore and what yes still worth it. For price well ok it's well over what anyone would want it to be but that's rockstar being greedy as always honestly not a suprise at this point but other than that yeah it's a good game it definitely doesn't feel whole it does feel like something is missing which is the multiplayer but with enough time mod creators will release it. Titus is right it feels like gta 4 when you play it in fact gta 4 is almost interly reused in this but of course it's set in the late western of 1911 and all guns are western themed but does it make this bad absolutely not. Another thing worth mentioning is rockstar had the decency and respect towards this game by adding a whole new story and game mode via the undead nightmare dlc which is still till this day one of the best dlc story expansion ever made. BTW to save your brain from melting from confusing undead nightmare isn't cannon so don't get yourself confused with it towards the main game. I feel like I'm rhyming on too much at this point but to answer your question yes it's as good as rdr 2 plus remember rdr walked so rdr2 could run (story mode wise that is, ♥♥♥♥ rdr2 online it's a big flop rdr1 online was well above it) not saying that to make the game story sound bad but this games story was brilliant and rdr2 was even better so go for it m8 it's a good game and the only problem there is to it is the price but rockstar has put another 20% discount on it so guess it's something at least.

this prolly be a troll post based off ur question but idk why you would think its so different from the 2nd one I loved this when it first came out. and has the same physics engine as GTA 4 so it was much more physics heavy with the euphoria engine at full force! RdR2 had A LOT more customization and choices. Its more like wild west GTA compared to Red Dead 2 really coming into its own in comparison to the GTA experience. been waiting for this port for like over 10 years! It also continues the story from the end of red dead 2 so its good if ur really into the story and wanna see what else happens after the 2nd. just think red dead 2 with no customization aside from whole outfits, no gun customization and no honor system and a lack of gore aside from red mist explosions from canons etc.

Bad experiences with past games trying to appeal to a larger base and imo mostly failing and dumbing down the game (Mass Effect and Dragon Age come to mind immediately).

I figured the game would be mostly similar but wasn't sure and with the release date being more recent than RDR2 I wasn't sure if it was a rerelease or like another game in the series with the same name. Also further confusion abounds because of the charge for the game I Already own in the bundle (usually the cost of games you already own is removed from the bundles). I just wanted to make sure I knew what I was getting into.

If you want to know how the story continues after RDR2 it's worth it.
Old but gold

Just wait until it's $20, if you're patient.

If you like RDR2 its definitely worth it for lore reasons alone.

Don't expect the same in depth gameplay mechanics as RDR2. RDR1 was developed for a now 20 years old console platform which caused hardware limitations to make the game more simple in design.

Hunting is way less in depth as an example. No pelt quality or legendary animals at all, no fishing, dialogue options are way more limited and no bonding with your horse in any meaningful way.

No real core managementt except for a health bar and dead eye bar. And RDR1 world is just way less interactive.

Its a nice game. And was one of the best for its time.

So many insult replies instead of objective argument about the price. Once you resort to insults and strayed away from logical discussion, you lose. Simple as that.

Oh no, they are <Banned>, too much misbehavior I guess? :steambored:
