Because once upon a time there was no such thing as gmail, hotmail or whatever there is these days?
I've built a new computer and for some reason whenever I buy a game on STEAM and download the rockstar launcher to play a game it's a toss up as to whether or not the game will automatically be tied to my old e-mail address or new one. It's dumb. I don't even get an option to login and bind the game to an account, it's just done automatically.
They won't link the game to an existing account, they'll only link the game to a brand new account - I have zero idea why, it's dumb as ♥♥♥♥.
Also, they make you jump through hoops to prove you own the account which is fine as I would expect it as it's a layer of security but be prepared to share articles of the service being shut down, proof you have mails from your old e-mail address and know the exact date your original account was created with screenshot proof of the mail you received when you first created the account.
I think you may need to contact STEAM for future purchases to request they unlink your STEAM purchases from your old Social Club/Rockstar Games Launcher e-mail address as this happened for me in GTAV and RDR. It'll likely happen for GTA VI unless it's unlinked from STEAM.
Honestly, 2K/Rockstar should really force you to log into your account before the game is linked to that account or at least give you an option of which account to link to when you launch the game.
The launcher won't go, since it's necessary if you want to sell your games on different distribution Platforms.
So its not just that. Its a Launcher problem. The problem is the Launcher. So it's rockstar's problem. I don't give a <blank> about Rockstar stuff, I just want to play my game.
Update: Relaunching Steam after the Redistributables update seemed to resolve my Rockstar login issues. I am guessing the Redist Update was meant to coincide with the RDR update this morning. Here is hoping my game in progress isn't affected.
Your %100 right, and I think we need to start a list of us who are having this problem, and how long it has been since we have been able to play the game. Steam is refusing to give refunds if you play past 2 hours, however, if a problem exists that is so problematic that you can no longer play the game at all, (and enough people make steam aware of it, especially after the new refund policy), then maybe they will give us refunds. Otherwise, again, steam will lose even more credibility because though $50 is steep as the game does not even have MP like the original did for the same price 15 years ago, but now, the rockstar launcher is screwed up and now ALL rockstar games will no longer launch, only state an error to reinstall the game which never fixes the problem.
I do not understand why steam is refusing refunds given the track history of devs lately screwing customers via launchers. Ubisoft did it for months with Unity. Capcom did it for YEARS with RE:ORC.
THIS ♥♥♥♥ HAS GOT TO STOP!
or simply get rid of the launcher requirement, and if other game companies do not want to comply...well...F**k Em! why not? They F**k us and do not even buy us dinner! Just take our boots from us or shoes, so we can't even walk home with dignity!
This is some serious BS. Ripping people off $50...
if not there is always emulation.
Or maybe consider not buying any more Rockstar games at all, until they decide to get rid of their stupid launcher (like Bethesda or 2k finally did).
That's just BS. The launcher is not necessary for that at all, as basically every other games company clearly demonstrates.
Also: steam is the 3rd party launcher, not RGL.
