Red Dead Redemption

Red Dead Redemption

Game is broken.
Crashes out when compiling shaders. Sometimes, I can make it past that, but it will crash out in the menus. There's a pop up error box but it opens and closes so fast you can't see what the error is. Restarting doesn't help. Re-installing doesn't work.

You suck, Rockstar. Refund.

I have the latest BIO update, as far as I know. My temps are fine. Every game I have runs fine except this one. Finally managed to get the error code from popup box:

ACCESS VIOLATION C0000005

Hey, like someone else already said, do you have RivaTuner or some FPS counter running in the background? If so, you'll need to close it. It worked for me.

Throw away that toaster and get a new PC
Zero problems on my desktop, laptop or Steam Deck. Sounds like it's on your end.

i9 14900KF, RTX 4080 Super.

Grandstand somewhere else, pleb.
Thanks everyone for suggesting it may be a fps counter in the background. Turns out it was ASUS GPU Tweak 3 causing the issue. Turned it off and I'm running it fine now. What a ridiculous issue.

I bought the game on Rockstar Launcher. Had issues with it crashing on compiling shaders on both laptop and PC. Came by here to see if anybody else was having the same issue. I am using MSI Afterburner and RTSS to monitor settings, I have found that if I disable these and launch the game seems to be working okay and stable without them. Thought I'd share

Microcode will only prevent the issue, it won't fix CPUs that have degraded. OP has to RMA the CPU.
Crashing during shader comp isn't a sign of degradation though
Yes it is.
Same issue. Getting c0000005 (Access violation).

Check your \Documents\Rockstar Games\Red Dead Redemption\CrashLogs\reports folder. For me it seems to be an issue with with D3DCOMPILER_47.

Specs: 7800X3D, 4090, 32Gb ram at stock 4800MT as people claim it's a stability issue (it's not)

Running the newest Nvidia Driver: 566.03.
Edit: I've uninstalled MSI Afterburner and it didn't help.

Hopefully someone already posted this, but if not - Close Afterburner, start game. See if that helps.

It's something to do with "Access Violation" as i recall. I closed mine and it worked flawlessly. Hope that helps.

Got it, thanks. it was ASUS GPU Tweak 3 causing the issue.
For me riva tuner was causing problems, I had the same issue with red dead 2.
Just close it and also close msi afterburner then game runs fine.

Yes this is me. After I disabled riva turner (for aida 64), it booted straight up.
