Game is broken.
Crashes out when compiling shaders. Sometimes, I can make it past that, but it will crash out in the menus. There's a pop up error box but it opens and closes so fast you can't see what the error is. Restarting doesn't help. Re-installing doesn't work.

You suck, Rockstar. Refund.

Do you have the latest drivers?

You don't have a 13th/14th gen Intel cpu do you? If so, you need the microcode patch to prevent crashes related to shader comp

Sorry to break it to you, but your CPU has degraded. RMA it and do what the person above said afterwards.

Might not have to do RMA but definitely needs to get the patch and possibly lower some power max settings (or use Intel's performance defaults). I'd only recommend RMA if it starts blue screening randomly

I have the latest BIO update, as far as I know. My temps are fine. Every game I have runs fine except this one. Finally managed to get the error code from popup box:

ACCESS VIOLATION C0000005

What's your cpu? Microcode issue with 13th/14th gen CPUs won't manifest as temp issues. Crashing during shader comp with certain games is one of the symptoms. I believe the first microcode patch rolled out in July or August.

i9 14900KF. I'll double check to make sure I have that patch. Thanks.

If you have Intel Extreme Tuning Utility you can also test if you are affected by running an AVX2 stress test for 5 minutes. If it crashes, you have problems, and need the microcode patch and/or need to adjust power max setting to values lower than what is currently set (which could be set too high if you're not using Intel's performance defaults in your BIOS).

Yeah I had to RMA my 14900k so I've went through all of this lol

Do you have MSI Afterburner/Rivatuner running in the background, if so, close it. Some people are reporting in GTAForums similar issues.

Microcode will only prevent the issue, it won't fix CPUs that have degraded. OP has to RMA the CPU.

Bought via Rockstar directly and while using their launcher, I'm getting the same access violation issue. I have GTAV and RDR2 also installed and launchable via Rockstar and no issues there. It's just this game (7800X3D, 4090, 32GB DDR5)

Crashing during shader comp isn't a sign of degradation though

Hey! Thanks for this! I can't believe RivaTuner was triggering this error. After disabling it, I can finally play the game.

Same. This is literally the only game doing this.
