FPS Drops in Towns
My FPS is 144 consistently when free roaming but when I’m in a town it drops to 90s-100s which is still fine but I don’t understand how it’s possible to drop that low when I’m running the game on a RX7900GRE and a AMD75700X with 16gb ram does anyone else experience fps drops in towns?

Yeah I just ran the game with a performance metrics overlay and my gpu is at a solid 80% whilst my cpu like 20-30%, hopefully a patch fixes this in the future, going down to 100 fps in towns really isn’t that big of a deal but it would be nice to have that consistent 144fps. Thanks for the reply anyways!

Imagine thinking 90 FPS is low.

I did not say 90 fps is low at all? I just said I was getting drops In frames in towns

Imagine thinking a CPU that is orders of magnitude more powerful than what this game was designed for, struggles, all the while running much more complex games faster.

Of course It's not a problem with recent CPUs, but on my system (R5 3600x / RTX 3060TI), the game drops to 60-50 FPS in towns at max settings (regardless of the resolution). Outside of towns, the framerate is over 100 FPS.

So yeah, I have to reduce the graphics settings to get a smooth experience, even though my PC can technically handle recent games much better.

Damn it's that faithful to the PS3 experience.

What town you're talking about ? Have you tested with locked framerate set to 120 instead, to see if it drops ? Got, any graphs, Afterburner results to provide ? What's your CPU usage ? You didn't test s**t, did you ?
I've checked with my old obsolete 13900KS, a couple cores were above 75% of utilisation at times in Chuparosa @144fps so, my guess your CPU bottlenecks.

Why are you pissed off, anyways to answer you, my cpu usage was 30s and gpu 80s, I haven’t overclocked anything or used MSI afterburner, it’s just any town most likely because of all the NPCS, but I have found out it isn’t just me with this issue and it’s not that big of a deal for me I was just curious.

It's like this with any game that loads tons of NPCs at once. You can even see them "pop" in and start their routines if you are going fast enough. Nothing out of the ordinary as the game doesn't scale up with how many threads your CPU might have available which makes some sense when you consider the 360 had I think 3 threads and 6 with HT total available on the CPU. But most of these old games were single threaded and they may not have been able to offset the code that much to take full advantage of the CPUs we have now.

Maybe we will get some optimizations in the future but I am happy that it's here at all and running as well as it is.

I don't think there will be any updates for this game, it's just Rockstar optimization lol.

They kept working on the PS4 version and updated it to support the PS5 which broke the "it can't run at 60 FPS". I think we will see something minor after a bit.
