RDR which version is this?
Is this a PC version of last year's switch/PS4 RDR, or is it of the old Xbox one? Is there any difference?

A remastered one

Every version of rdr is the exact same as the og ps3/360 version. Nothing was changed other than upgrading the game engine to allow for higher resolutions and better effects. Same story same art assets same voice actors same everything. Just packaged in a way that allows it to run on pc.

Port of the PS4/Switch GOTY edition with some minor work done (the map and outfit icons are upscaled instead of being 480p). Otherwise identical.

The good news is that now its on pc modders will be able to drag it into the semi modern era with better textures and such. There are a few dozen already and growing daily since some measure of mods for the newer consoles work with this version.

Also now it supports Mouse and Keyboard controls the game never had that before.

Yes mouse and keyboard support is awesome in this game and turns John into a true gunslinger with the accurate mouse aiming. Pulling off headshots was never so easy and taking out entire gangs is a breeze now. Maybe a bit too easy but I'm not complaining! Can't wait for the holiday sale so I can play it myself after watching so many streamers enjoy the new controls and performance.

Having looked a bit closer... yeah, Scum's right. It's not a no-effort port; it does dot the i's and cross the t's, it has settings for using more modern hardware, ultrawide, etc. but as far as I can tell, the textures hasn't been changed, just the anti-aliasing and shaders using the textures.

I guess the real change is that the game can now be modded properly.

Pretty much, yeah. Really looking forward to what modders can do or what we discover in datamines.

I mean even with the 'old' art assets the game looks great now that you can get it to run at high resolutions and without the crappy shadows and lighting that was a hallmark of the og console game. The art style and ambiance and music and animations and voice acting all hold up perfectly well in 2024. It just needs a texture upscale and there are already mods that are doing that though on a small scale with only weapons or Johns textures etc. A full out total conversion is going to take a while.

There are tons of additions graphically to this PC version, on Ultra doesnt look far off RDR2.
SgtScum Nov 1, 2024 @ 11:07am
Oh no you can see there is a massive difference in texture quality in a side by side rdr vs rdr2 comparison. You can count the pixels on many textures even when far away in some cases. But overall yeah on ultra you do get the far draw ranges and lodding of rdr2 which all on its own makes the game so much better looking.

this game is much different but it seems to just be updated with pc capabilities like amd fsr.
as for gameplay im not sure yet, the horse seems slower than the switch that i played.

Officially its a PC version of the switch/Ps4 version. With that being said, it runs at higher res, higher fps, has better render distance for certain assets, has enormous mod potential etc.
