This game was NOT designed for KB&M
the controls with the KB&M are terrible. tbh i dont think any game was designed for a keyboard WSAD to move. it just doesnt feel fluid compared to pressing and hodling a joystick 50% and getting a slow walk compared to a 100% run when pressing W. No amount of cope and denial can justify it.

Idk works for me and I prefer this over gamepad. Same with GTA.

tbh i dont think any game was designed for a controller thumbstick to aim. it just doesnt feel fluid compared to finely movng a mouse and pressing m1 to shoot. No amount of cope and denial can justify it.

tbf it was never meant to be released on PC so it'll be aimed primarily at controllers

I kinda switch between the two. I prefer using keyboard and mouse for combat and gamepad for the horse. Tapping shift to gallop is extremely uncomfortable sometimes.. at least for me.

Sooooooooo what is stopping you from using a controller?

So i figured out what was screwing up the input it was the STEAM CONTROLLER settings stuff..even when i was pressing in the left joystick a virtual keyboard would pop up on the screen. I turned it off now everything works fine as normal. so incase you are having hti sproblem disable the steam controller inpuit thing

Idk I'm playing on steam deck and the gunplay feels fine.

In general, third person games tend to feel better with controllers, I like first person games (and ones that switch between the two) with m&k

Smooth as silk here with keys and mouse.

Mouse support sucks. 3 buttons max.
Must be technically absolute IMPOSSIBLE to support 4 or 5 buttons. LAZY.

The biggest issue control wise, is the horse. I do not understand, why they didn't set it up so that hitting S while moving forward, would stop the horse. Very awkward to have to remind myself to hit Lctrl to skiw/stop horse without getting off of it. VERY weird decision.
Gallop control is also iffy. Would have preferred a buffered repeat press on forward followed by hold to keep speed, with shift just reserved for 'match speed'.

RDR2's controls were awkward AF on M+K as well.

cry babies imo. As a casual gamer I get why it would be hard to adjust or the price being to high. But as an actual gamer you should know best that this hobby is expensive (pc,games, microtransactions) that's if you like to be a collector as well and not pirate those games. And after playing a lot of games for a lot of hours which make you an actual gamer(I have to mention that like I said there are differences between casual and actual gamers or vets) you have to be able to get used to any kind of control. From controller, to m&k, from holding to tapping shift, from arcade to realistic. Like cmon either be a casual gamer and enjoy the game and don't complain or be an actual gamer and get better.
