Crash
Press Play from my Steam Library and the Rockstar Launcher pops up like it's going to load the game. The screen goes black and then quits to desktop (crashes).

have you tried to reinstall the game ? did you install the newest game ready drivers for your GPU ?
I had the same issue with no fix. Spoke with support on it and they were a joke. I ended up getting a refund. If you figure it out let me know. I restarted my machine, verified files, reinstalled, checked drivers, reinstalled the rockstar launcher, made sure the game and launcher were on the same drive, cleared my rockstar launcher profile, and nothing.
what monitor are you using? When I connect my LG TV the game crashes on launch, but when the computers only connected to my 2 other displays the game works perfectly fine? I have no idea why the TV's killing the game.. (Other displays are Asus, and Acer)

[POSSIBLE FIX]

I have the same issue on a ultra-wide 32:9 (5120x1440) monitor. Black screen for a few secs and crash to desktop. After putting my screen on 16:9 (2560x1440) (bij using PIP, changing windows resolution didn't work) the game worked instantly.

It seems it doesn't like certain resolution/monitor combinations, probably a bug that will be fixed in the future.

Damn, I bought it again, because I am a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clown, and that worked. I have a Odyssey G9, so maybe its Ultra Wide that can cause the issue.

Great man, glad I could help you out, it's not optimal, but will probably get fixed. And same here, Odyssey G9 :)
Do you have GPU software running (ex: MSI Afterburner) or have some sort of monitoring software running in the background (like RivaTuner or GeForce Experience), if so, there are a bunch of people who reported (myself included) that turning these off finally got me past the precompilation of shaders process without a crash.
Just to add to this;

I’m having the same issue on an Odyssey G9 so it’s clear that this is the issue.

I’ve spent 2 days reinstalling game etc, forcing admin launch etc and nothing worked. Found this thread and it’s now clear the game isn’t working with this resolution monitor.

Hopefully they’ll patch that as I’d like to play it on that monitor
Tested out the game on my other monitor and it all works great.

Can confirm that Odyssey G9 Neo / 5120x1440 is the issue

You can use PIP (Picture-in-Picture) in the mean time (option in the odyssey).

Cheers will give this a go, I'm not that tech savvy so do I just go into the monitor menu via the button and select this? will it then allow me to play at 5120x1440?

Thanks

Yep, just go into the menu, select pip, enable it. then go back in the menu again and set the mode to split the screen in half (there are like 4 options or something).

After you have half the screen size, just run rdr as usual.

Here's a guide for the g7, but it's almost the same for the g9 (50 second guide)

{Stupid Fix}
(I have an LG TV, With an ASUS + Acer Monitor)
If you duplicate the displays, it will run on the TV/Monitor it wasn't before.
Tried changing the TV Display/Refresh Rate to match my Main Monitor, still crashed...
The only way it didn't crash, was duplicating the screens, then I turned the main one off and was still able to sit back and play!
Hopefully they come out with a proper fix soon!

Thanks for the fix. This sh*t is so weird. I've never seen a game break from using a specific monitor before.
