How are the controls for Mouse & Keyboard?
Going back to Rockstar games before GTA IV is basically impossible with the mouse and keyboard's janky controls and although GTA IV and GTA V worked flawlessly, even L.A. Noire had it's issues.

Somehow RDR2, once again, took a face plant for Mouse & Keyboard design and opted for complex one-time-use controls for some reason instead of basic context sensitive controls. Controllers only have 14 buttons and 2 analog sticks, why do i need to use the ENTIRE keyboard to play? I use a half-keyboard for gaming, Basically everything to the left of the number 7 and still, even with those 23+ keys and a mouse , I didn't have enough to cover the keybindings where overlapping isn't allowed. God forbid I want to use the same button that looks behind me while riding a horse as I use for skinning an animal even though it's literally impossible for both of those to be used at the same time.

But I digress. Are Red Dead Redemption's controls actually optimized for Keyboards this time or is this another low-effort cash grab attempt? I really want to give this one a go.

Well, the aiming is much better with mouse. Some of the same buttons are used for different parts of the game (poker vs blackjack, or camera on horse vs on foot), but you can remap them. Only thing that sucks is that it doesn't support more than 3 mouse buttons, so you can't map the 4th or 5th button on the side of your mouse.

The keybinds seem to be incomplete. I can't find the binds for on-horse galloping and exiting the horse.

Yes it is.

It's the E key by default. Doesn't seem like this can be edited or is even listed anywhere as how to get on or off the horse.

I have issues by using keyboard to ride a horse, Players will lose control direction when horse is running. I happens a few times so I have to return the game. Remember, It is a PC port game. it never happens to Red Dead Redemption 2.

I use an MMO mouse because the 12 side buttons are mapped to the numpad, it's very useful.

It's literally and unironically skill issue. I never had any problem with K+M in R* games. 3,VC,SA,4,5, LA Noire, RDR2 all had good controls to play with K+M. Especially since these are all shooters. RDR is not different.

I played GTA 3 with K AN M, played it fine, and it was actually easier in gunfights.

For gun play and general moseying about the m/kb works very well and imho better than a controller. For riding the horse? Yeah they got some more work to do.

Cant believe I have to keep tapping flog button to increase my horse/wagon speed and then tap another button to stop then keep tapping the flog button again to speed up. When attempting to keep the horses from escaping the canyon corral, I cannot do all this tapping with different buttons to turn fast enough to turn the stallions back from escaping. No choice but to quit the game here since I have done all the currently worthwhile things to do. This mission seems to be key to releasing other missions ... Game ends for me ... :(

Buy a cheap 360 controller and plug it in. It's natively supported by both windows and the game so its plug n play. Upside is many games also have default 360 control schemes when they don't have support for any other type of controller.

Controllers work fine with the older games, but the way that the OG key bindings are (not the new rereleases) is unbearable.

I have a gamesir for PC which is great for specific games, but the reason I never got into RDR on the PS3 was because the controller. I've been spoiled by M&K

Yep .. played RDR2 through many times. Controls for PC were just fine. I also use a
Taurus keypad. As far as 360 controllers go., I have one but seldom use it. I get better accuracy and speed with my Taurus and mouse.

I love them, it's one of the largest selling points for this game. I thought RDR 2 had great mouse and keyboard controls as well. They don't allow for all the mouse buttons, which sucks.

This is one of my favorite games heh. I still loved it even though I was forced to play it with a controller. And I still played with free aim, because unlike the multi on this, there is a mild aim assist. It may not be as noticeable as Halo or Cod, but if you aim the white dot near the enemy, usually it can hit them at closer ranges.

I'm on this game using an evans repeater, which holds like 22 rounds in the magazine, and I feel OP with mouse and kb. XD This game was never a tough one, but it was trickier on horseback, I felt when playing on controller, I had two use dead eye for those moments if I wanted to play with free aim. On here, I am pulling off amazing shots while on horse with my mouse, and it feels much more satisfying when you pull it off.
