The Legend of Heroes: Trails through Daybreak II

Statistiche:
LOLCOWLISATION / TRANSLATION errors and re-writes MEGA-THREAD... CRIMSON SiN edition
It's that time again, we all know how it's gonna go at this point.

Starting the thread up early this time as we now have advertisements and demo's out with text we can use already.

Again, use this as a place to post all changes made by the people at NISA, along with any other text related bugs (incorrect item/craft descriptions etc) or issues you stumble across, as god knows NISA don't have an internal QA team that will do it.

I myself probably won't interact much on this thread as Kuro 2 absolutely sucks ass (3/10 on a good day) , and i have better games to spend my limited time on, but still wanted to see the abominations that NISA made on this entry regardless. (i can already think of multiple things they will change in this entry and have my bingo sheet ready!!)

Massive o7 to all of you brave soldiers who will put up with the game not only with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ translation, but also the horrendous dub aswell to collect this info.

You people are heroes among men.

Still have no idea what that means. Maybe I'm just not on the internet enough? I don't know.

It means Charisma.
Localization is bad, that's a fact already.
"Guys the localization is actually good! Big Trails fan btw I just hate everything about the games, thank god these Tumblr-fanfiction writers can come in and basically rewrite the script with their head canon to appeal to my remedial sensibilities! Poggers! Rizz! Skibidi!"

the fact they are un-ironically like this EVERY-TIME baffles me.

No change can be justified outside of i prefer XSEED or NISA's vision more, which is an argument for them to become a game dev studio and make their own products, not translate someone else's and get paid to ruin it (of which they are charging new game price and out the ass for dlc on games 2-3 years old)

♥♥♥♥ is sad

you dont get to talk down to people and shut them up like you do in your HR office karen. your comment only serves as fuel to us

dude, you guys have an entire thread dedicated to being peak Otaku Karens bemoaning and whining about words used in everyday modern English that actually fit what is happening and the character saying it because it's not as desert dry as any women who has laid eyes on you weebs.
The arrogance of them is astounding. Luckily NISA and Falcom doesn’t give a single flying f*** about their opinions.

Damn dude, you should work with NISA. Your ability to make up ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fits their writing style perfectly.

i wonder how NISA still haven't realised using phrases like chill pill implies so much world building that did not happen in this series to justify shizuna saying this...

(in fact alot of the time their lame jokes/puns actually break canon for the entire world)

Also almost none of the original line is present in the slightest, even removing the fact that Elaine often does put on an angry face in both kuro 1 and 2.

But considering the dude stated on twitter that he doesn't know Japanese and is too lazy to learn i'm not surprised anymore, just disappointed someone is being paid to do this in the first place with no oversight whatsoever.

That's what I've been pointing out with the perpetual paraphrasing and forced idioms taken from real life.

There was this line from the first game:
Agnès (NISA): "This isn't just Van's cross to bear—we will all bear it with him."
Agnès (Zero Field): "This is not a problem for just Van to face. It's a problem for all of the Solutions Office."

"Cross to bear" refers to the crucifixion of Jesus. So who is the canon Jesus in Zemuria? Did someone atone everyone's sin via capital punishment? Why would Agnès say that?

More scenes I caught recently:

Scene (voiced): Approaching the fight arena at Blacklight District
Nadia: ここには近づかない方がよくない?
Nadia (NISA): Maaaybe we should do a 180 on this.

Why can't Nadia just say, "Maybe it's better if we don't get too close?" Why "do a 180". This is just localizer putting words in Nadia's mouth.

Scene: Conclusion of Stalker Investigation 4SPG (CHAOS - leave fate to a coin toss)
Van: ま、こういう解決法もあるってこった。
Van (NISA): Aw, c'mon. There's more than one way to skina cat, y'know.

Again, "more than one way to skin a cat" is appropriate... if this game's setting is our reality. I'm surprised they used a cruel expression after changing Beauty's Blade to be sensitive, or avoiding to use the word "dead" and changing it to "meet our end".

yep this series western release is full of cases like this where they break immersion and world building from all that phrases (or jokes) imply.

Im glad more people are aware of just how poorly handled this aspect is.

Alot of people think we only hate "PC" or "woke" changes... when i just hate ♥♥♥♥ translation in general and want the industry to start actually having standards and holding themselves to them.

If i want to judge a character or the choices they make in the story or their progression, i want it to be fair and because the original writers did it... not because a third party stepped in and changed it for an entire portion of the fanbase who only consume it in english.

I originally hated estelle when i played the english version and felt alot of what she said/did was out of place/didn't feel right, only to find out that was because xseed did so much to mess with her character right down to the core. Had i not researched or got to listen to the jp voice lines (of which aren't in the english releases for the sky trilogy) i would have never released her character is way better than i had judged her for. Turns out she is just a tomboy... instead of a violent, lame pun spewing psychopath.

All these little issues and inconsistencies (along with the much bigger ones) pile up over each hour of the game played, then over each new game in the series. To the point where talking about characters/lore/world building with some people they experienced a literally different game than everyone else all because they only played the English release.

It sucks it's like this, cause the series deserves soo much better treatment.

While it is a good idea to point out bad localizations and stuff like that, I will still ask the obvious question: did any of you take the time to report this to NISA support?

Reporting any of this to NISA themselves is pointless when they themselves promote and encourage the changing of the source material, hell they openly state they don't know japanese as well (this is the lead director on the project btw)

If you actually want anything done you would have to let falcom know, of which they are seemingly (if recent releases and inclinations by how they have been talking are to go on) are either going to find other people to handle their games from now on or straight up cut out the useless middle man and self publish (which would be much better for them in the long run, especially business wise)

Lets hope The sky remake (for as much as i hate that its a thing in the first place) shows them they don't need to waste time and loose out on money to unqualified third parties who only do your works harm every time they touch them.

There's nothing to report. It's not a bad localization either; it's just not the localization they want, and because of that they think it shouldn't exist. They don't like it, so it shouldn't exist, and NISA shouldn't be allowed to localize anything in their eyes.

NISA knows these individuals exists, since they make this same thread in every Steam Discussion. And every time, anyone who likes the NISA translation they're immediately labeled as someone who can't possibly like the games and or can't like the story and characters.

For whatever reason, they have this bizarre notion in their brains that they're the judge and jury on what makes a good localization. Anything they don't approve of shouldn't exist, and anyone who doesn't agree with them isn't a real fan or can like the stories and characters. Just the worst kinds of people you unfortunately find in overly passionate fandoms.
Reporting the issue to Falcom? Might be a good move but when I saw who they chose for the Sky remake, I am a bit skeptical. GungHo is not the best either, especially when it comes to the technical side of things. If they only need to translate, that might be ok somehow.
