Yep, they nerfed it hard. Now you'll need to refill your boost gauge again up to tree. The boost gage limit release doesn't helps too, because is still too slow.
Some of the larger enemies are pretty tanky too. Regular fights can actually take some time to get through in this game. On the bright side, Risette's s-craft can still instakill.
Agnès can solve your S-gauge problems with her new craft.
While I thought the same at the beginning, after getting a few more hours of play I realized the stun mechanic got a lot better now with the addition of EX Chains, they can do a LOT of damage and even playing on Nightmare difficulty I often get 2 or 3 EX Chains on a boss before they recover, it's pretty damn good and all that damage costs only 1 boost which is easy to keep up.

Oh yeah, some of those bosses are nasty with the S-craft spam. >_> On Hard mode at least. Especially near the end. Gave me a game over the first time I got wrecked by it. Played a bit smarter the next try, and didn't have to switch to my second squad. ^^

I remember getting oneshotted by Oathbreaker and Ixs / Jorda multiple times in the final dungeon.

Previous games somehow had some kind of balance. Daybreak 1 was boring s-craft spam because anything else was worthless. Normal atack made similar damage to usual crafts and arts. But anyway, combat in this serias never was good. It's all about the plot.
Yeah not a fan of the nerf. 12th game in the series and all of a sudden they needed to nerf it again right after the nerf in Daybreak 1

I'm laughing so hard at this.
Yes when I saw it I was very upset. But they did kinda give back the previous system, so if you played games up to Hajimari, you know you can use some old strats now.

What they changed that upset me so so so much is that they removed the Sub-menu separation for Arts.
Now Healing arts and Ofensive arts are all in the same list. It feels like a downgrade, like when I was playing the Sky series and I had to scroll over 34 spells just tog et to the one I wanted to use.

Overall though that's to be expected:

Sky 2 added more stuff than Sky 1, and the third did the same.
Zero added more stuff but nerfed a lot of things too, just to bring them back to Azure.
CS1 works just like Zero, but then CS2 added a cheaper version of the Overdrive AZure has. Then CS3 added orders instead, and they discovered that it was broken (The Order from Kurt can literally make you kill a boss after breaking him by removing your delay by 70%), that was fixed on CS4. So it was bound to happen. They take feedback but they also check how people can break the game.

Daybreak 1 I could easily byu the mid game end most bosses with Aaron S Craft spam with the Hollow that makes broken enemies stay dizzy longer.

Fear not S-Craft lovers, it's better in Kai, you can at least blow all 4 party members S-Crafts when a fight starts. There's cooldowns but the boost gauge charges are way more liberal
Cool, best thing to get rid of the minions to proper concentrate on the boss.

How do you do that? Normally i notice that after the EX Chain hits, they(regardless of boss or mobs) just wake up.
It's not as bad as it was but S crafts are still MVP. Once the good orbments come back into play you just vandalize every random pack of mobs and one hit them constantly making all regular enemies irrelevant. Then with bosses you build around getting them stunned then pulling off vans second s craft which will usually kill them in one or two tries of setting that up.
It's a good design choice (at least, compared to how it was in the previous game). In the first game almost all crafts were worthless because saving your CP for 2x S craft was basically always the optimal use for your CP barring a few edge cases - now the crafts characters have are actually meaningful. S crafts are still really strong.

The main problem I have with combat in this game is.. it's just plain too easy. To keep it more challenging I had to ban myself from using all accesories, quartz and consumable items, and I'm near the end of the intermission without really struggling anywhere still (playing on nightmare).
