And why would it be free if AoE 2's recently released expansion was not?
Anyone thinking it's free either doesn't know how this sort of thing works or doesn't remember the days before Steam took off - days like the original release of AoM, for that matter. The Titans wasn't free! Why the hell would this be!?
Because they should be grateful that more than decade later their is still a hardcore fanbase loyal to this game?
Because some people -like me- paid around 30 euros/pounds/dollars for the base game of an outdated product that still has many flaws?

THAT IS NOT HOW EXPANSIONS WORK. Expansions are generally not standalone, anyway - if they don't own the game they'll have to buy and download it first!
