MSXML 4.0 / Windows 8.1

I must have spent hours trying things and looking online for a solution, and I can't find anything that works. Any chance someone can offer a suggestion? I'm running on Windows 8.1, and whenever I try to launch AoM I get an error saying that "MSXML 4.0 is not installed correctly. It is required to run the game."

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling MSXML, running AoM in compatabilty, running as admin. Nothing seems to solve this. I'd really appreciate any help.
