Game not launching?

• If you are crashing during the splash screen / on the main menu we are currently investigating an issue with Steam. Users are reporting that running in offline mode is a temporary workaround. This should be resolved at this point.
  
  
• If your game does not launch at all without any error message, a few users have reported that adding -nostartup to their launch options has allowed them to start.
  
  
• If you are running vista and get a dll missing error, please see the other stickied thread in this section
  
  
• If you are running windows XP please note that the operating system is not supported and below minimum system requirements. The OS as a whole is out of support as well. For more information visit The official XP site [www.microsoft.com]
  
  
• If you are getting a msvc.dll (or similiar) missing error, it's likely a visual C++ redistributable is not installed properly during the first launch and can be acquired here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30679

Additional Logging

From our development team to assist with identifying what is happening when the game starts:

Try this before doing the below steps if things just vanish when hitting play in the launcher:
1) Restart Steam (completely, including from system tray)
2) Navigate to your game install folder
3) Delete "Aomx.exe"
4) Verify the integrity of the game cache, reacquire the executable, try again.



Here are the instructions if people are having difficulties launching:

1. Right click on Age of Mythology in your game's list and go to properties.
2. Select the local files tab and keep this this tab handy, we'll be coming back.
3. Click the Browse Local Files button.
4. Delete AOMX.exe
5. Navigate from Steam\steamapps\common\Age of Mythology up three directory levels to Steam\logs
6. Create a new text file called custom_log.txt. If it's already there... open up the file, delete the contents and resave it.
7. Go back to the local files tab in your steam client (step 2).
8. Click verify integrity of game cache.
9. Run the game again.
10. Open up custom_log.txt and post the contents of the files if the game is not working.

You can post / paste bin the results.

If you have nothing in the log file, please try launching AOMX.exe directly and see if it will generate a log.

No custom log is ever created and this is the same too:

Who the hell are you guys? Your website still has the wordpress footer displayed. Refund my $25 and I'll fix that for you. Awful.

I've tried all of the things listed in the original post, however my log file is still empty. Even after trying the aomx.exe and launcher both. When I use aomx.exe nothing happens but when I use the launcher i get the "The program can't start because mfc110.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."

After attempting to run the aomx.exe as administrator, a new file appears titled "aomx.exe.6340.STEAMSTART". After trying it again I got another file titled "aomx.exe.8384.STEAMSTART" however nothing happens.

didn't work in my custom_log at first but after running the game afew times it gave me that short bit I posted, maybe try it afew times and see if that adds anything in there

This is happening to me too.

I have two computers. The first one(I downloaded aom at launch time on that one) was able to play and everything, even with the fps issue, it launched and was 'working' for all intents and purposes.

The second one, this one, I just downloaded aom a half hour ago. No dice. Will not start nor give me an error. If I click the icon in the folder directly, I get the two errors I quoted.

Did the hotfix break something?
