As far as I know, this won't work for any game on steam, unfortunately. The steam version is "Extended Edition" and is definitely a different game than the disk version. Also, if you only have the disk version for vanilla then you should know EE also includes The Titans. Honestly they didn't add that much for EE and they did add a lot of bugs. There are people around here who will tell you to stick with the disk version and use other services for mutliplayer. I would recommend waiting for the game to go on sale especially if you don't already have TT.

its not diffrent. it just has a change of name.

EE isn't just a change of name. They changed the game files, formats, and added new features among other things. It is very much not the same as the disk version. It also uses the Steam servers for multiplayer.

the only thing they added was the chinese dlc which has nothing to do with the disk version. the other thing is they only changed the mechanics into a glitcher version with what i am told is better graphics. other then that nothing is diffrent.

If you're trying to make a point about how they didn't add "that much"... that's fine - I totally agree with you. But the fact remains that you can't use the product key to play EE because the disk version is not a Steam game.

They added day/night cycles, "new"(ish) graphics, and many other things.

The game has to be practically the same for it to work for some other program's version of it

All you have to do for EE is launch it from your computer, no disk needed

Code cannot fluctuate between programs, it is fixed to a program
[DoD]Skirnir Sep 29, 2016 @ 4:04am
Why not just play it without inserting the disk

You don't need product keys for AOM Ex. either
