Problems Launching the Game

From my steam library I start the game like you would any other game through steam. The launcher comes up, and I click play. The launcher goes away, everything seems fine, then an error shows up stating "Age of Mythology: Extended Edition requires steam to be running".

If anybody can help me with this problem that would be great. I really love playing this game.

Note: as you may assume from me starting the game through steam, steam IS running.

Hi i was having the same problem and fixed it. Make sure you have VC++ 2017 and 2015 x86 installed first. Then restart the computer, open steam, click launch on the game and as soon as you do that press ALT+ENTER the game will lauch in windowed mode. Then go into the options and change the resolution to the native resolution of the monitor and relaunch.

Also do this before you use the ALT+ENTER method, open C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age of Mythology\Users and look for default.prf or *yoursteamusername*.prf open it up in notepad++ and search for <windowmode>1</windowmode> by default its <windowmode>0</windowmode> change the 0-1.

THIS WILL WORK FOR SURE!

Ty you for your help. Although All I had to do was restart steam and it fixed itself. I think it there was something wrong with steam, because it did the same thing for another game.

Hello, i have the same problem, which appear after update to 2.7.4., previous everything was ok.
I tried solutions from this topic but it still doesn't work.

Any ideas ?
