Age of Mythology: Extended Edition

Age of Mythology: Extended Edition

To anyone who has crash on start.
Hi,

If your game is crashing on start and you have already tried running steam in offline mode and using the launch version of the game (available as beta), then what worked for me was forcing the game to run at my native resolution as a launch option, I simply put xres=3840 yres=2160 and it worked.
Here is a cheat sheet you can copy into the launch options box, I have only included common resolutions. To find out which is for you, right click on your desktop and select "screen resolution" then look at what is in the resolution box, if it is different to what is below then you will just need to write it in manually

To enter these right click on Age of mythology in your steam library, hit properties, then hit "set launch options", it will bring up a box for you to type in.

xres=3840 yres=2160
xres=2560 yres=1440
xres=2560 yres=1080
xres=1920 yres=1080
xres=1680 yres=1050
xres=1600 yres=900
xres=1366 yres=768
xres=1280 yres=720

Edit - additional fix for some cases

Junior,
The mod does disable the splash screens (hey we made the game for you guys to mod, that's a legit option and likely will be popular :p ) - but all it's doing is taking you to the home screen before the steam client goes insane and eats 100% cpu, i.e. it's not resolving the issue.

Still trying to figure out why it's doing it when offline mode isn't on for some people.

This didn't work for me. What did work was disabling sync on my laptop and desktop after reinstalling, before launching. It was trying to apply my laptop graphics setting to my desktop, and crashing.

So, this fix worked for me once, and then when I attempted disabling all the active mods and reloaded the assets, it stopped working again. I disabled cloud syncing, uninstalled and reinstalled it, and it still just gives me a black screen for a few seconds before crashing :( this is not a problem I've ever had on my primary gaming pc, but I just bought this laptop (microsoft surface book 3) today and it should be able to run it
