Age of Mythology: Extended Edition

AOM Gold Edition
I have the disk of the game back from its initial release, I tried registering it with steam, but it said it was invalid. Is there anyway I could get the game free, or a discount? I rather not spend $30 for a game I already have... Also the servers are down on the CD for online, would this mean they are going back up, or only for steam version?

Where have the developers ever said you can use your old CD key to get the game for free / for a discount?

This wouldn't work anyway, people would mass buy them off eBay for £2 and then make a fortune off them.

If your attitude to it is spending $30 again then maybe this game isn't for you.

I believe the servers still work on the old one, but there are not 100% working apparently. This version will run via Steam, so a brand new Multiplayer.

Yes, devs have said before they can't do something like this, and let's also remember all the mess there was back in the day with the Gold Edition CD keys, it would make it really hard to keep track of it.
The old multiplayer ESO doesn't work anymore, but I guess you got Voobly and Game Ranger if you really don't want to pay the $30, though most Voobly players are moving over to this new version.

If they gave the game free to everyone who already owns age of mythology they'd make absolutely no money from the work they've done for the extended edition which.... wouldn't be fair at all.

Ok makes sense, thanks for your opinion, I just wanted to know since I only have about $35 to spend on a new game, and I wanted to make sure that the old disk didn't count for anything before i bought the game.

Huh, I was wondering too if it was compatible somehow... There's not much point in keeping my old CDs around anymore, I guess :/

meh I haven't touched it in years... I recently went thru and got rid of all my old game boxes, only keeping the bits with CD keys on them. (on top of cleaning out the rest of my other storage junk lol). If I really feel like playing it again, I'll have to get the new Steam version so I can play it with friends :P
