XP is no longer supported by Microsoft...

It's high time you upgraded to Windows 7 dude.
Protagoras 24 abr. 2014 às 8:53
Is it free?
Laptop 24 abr. 2014 às 8:54
No, it's not free. It's a Windows operating system.

Ok :( thanks for your answers
Actually there are several solutions for upgrading from Windows XP. Microsoft didn't just leave all the XP users to die alone in the cold- there's actually an entire help center about it.

Actually this is the exact reason, I will not be buying Age of Mythology Extended edition... I didn't see any good reason, other than the push towards windows 8, To end support of XP. Such a shame too...

AOM: EX isn't the reason they ended XP support dude. The decision to end XP support on April 8th was set way before AOE2HD was even announced.

You don't have to jump to Windows 8 anyway, why not Windows 7.

I Understand that Laptop65, but I am not convinced I should have to go out and spend 90$ on a new operating system when the original AOM works fine on my current one, and I can still play games like MechWarrior Online who's requirements are way higher system specs required for AOM:EX.

I am also still recovering from the bitter taste in my mouth of a Age of Empires 2: HD and how that game was patched and remade. So it doesn't inspire or motivate me to make that leap of faith to windows 7 (which you can no longer buy in stores by the way.) or Windows 8.1 which has dissmal reviews.

They could have allowed AOM:EX to work on Xp, but it's a business issue on thier part. Because they would like hypocrits if they ended XP support but one of thier games was still playable on it.

It is a shame to make you pay for a new OS when they stop the older one... I was happy with Win XP... it's so stupid all the things they do for money.
Just so you guys know, we don't have any control over the operating systems. We're an entirely different team. So please don't assume that we're trying to do some sort of money grab when we don't even have anything to do with it. Windows XP was a fantastic operating system & I used it for years but it just doesn't have the ability to properly handle newer games. Titanfall, for example, doesn't support Windows XP.

Also, we're not going to come to your house and unplug your computer if you try to run AoM:EX on your Windows XP machine. We're not forcing you to upgrade your operating system. If you can get it to run on your Windows XP computer, fair play to you. We just can't guarantee your playing experience.

There is no chance Age of Mythology will run on Windows XP. We are actually supporting DirectX 9 hardware because people have DX9 cards in modern operating systems, but the reason it won't run on XP is because the code is compiled with a more modern platform toolset which is kind of a complicated conversation. There is quite a lot of extra work to make it run on XP, but XP is truly dead now. Without anymore security updates, I won't even let my mother run XP anymore :)

Microsoft no longer support XP, so it seems silly to optimise and tweak a game BY Microsoft to run on XP. If you think about it, it makes sense.

For those still on XP - I would seriously recommend Windows 7.

Thank you for all these informations, actually I don't blame you, if XP is not supported by microsoft anymore you're doing the right thing. All I'm saying is that microsoft keeps creating new OS' and stops supporting the old ones to force people to upgrade and get more money, that's the way I feel... now I have to pay and upgrade my system even if everything was working well. Most of you thinks this is ok but I think this is manipulation. Cuz it lead to : my OS is too old to support Age of Mythology. <= sounds crazy right

Could you please try then?

I am not your mother but I am running XP x64

I do not care about the DLC but I would really love it if the main game ran on XP like the original did

I played this game back when I had 7 installed and the new resolution was awesome

In the end though XP really has no equal so I went back to it

It is a speed demon and takes far less space to install than the "sequels"
