And I'd highly encourage everybody to learn english. In this day and age with the internet and all, international communication is very important, and english is a major factor in that.
I think it's foolish to say nobody in russia will buy this game if it isn't in russian. Was the Original AoM even in russian?
I can talk & understand Dutch & English and i don't speak but understand Spanish and a little bit german. It's not about how many languages someone knows, you can start by one. Its just a fact that the english language is very popular in the gaming industy.
Like Burning already says: Nowadays it can be really useful to be able to communicate or play games in other languages. It just goes to far to boycot a game because it's not in a language you speak but still is available in 6 of the most spoken languages on earth.
And another thing, once you've learned english you can play almost every existing videogame on this planet. I think OP doesn't have much videogames because not every game is made in russian language. Maybe AAA titles but not alot of indie games.
I would also rather play games in my native language, but because that's not always possible i'm happy that i can speak and understand english.
I congrats you. Dutch is your native lang, I think. It close to German. Who knows Danish except Danes? It's obvious. But Europe is big and united, and have many languages. You need "united language" it is impossible for you without it. In Russia English so sharply isn't necessary to us. In Russia lives over 100 different nationalities, and our "united language" is Russian.
And that is different things:
1) I know English and I CAN play games in English
2) I know English and I CAN play games in English and I WANT play that games.
Not everyone wants.
I think - everybody have the rights for own opinion. I don't know about original AoM.
Then remove also these languages:
French
Italian
German
Spanish
Japanese
Korean
traditional Chinese
Why not? After all "the developer can't go the extra mile to translate in every language conceivable".
AOE II HD was released in Russian, so it's double weird for me why there is no Russian translation.
I speak English in Native level, and I also speak French, but I prefer to play in different languages to have diversified experience and hate any borders.
And I also support Brazilians it their demand to have Portuguese version. Really, how many people speak Dutch, which was mention before? 30 millions? But there are 300 millions speak Russian and 300 millions speak Portuguese.
Yes, there was a couple of Russian AOM versions which was made for pirate market (in situation when AOM was never realised by MS in Russia it has very good level of translation for pirated copy). Thanks Valve, now these days passed away and we can buy games in Steam and avoid piracy. But even now, devs advise us to make custom Workshop translation and I ask: is it fair to us?
I wrote slow in kb because i dont see letter russian I have installed russian language ^_^
I don't see what your point is. Microsoft is all about profit. Unless Russia is a viable market - piracy tells me it's not - then Microsoft has no reason to give you AOM in Russian. It's simple economics.
