because the orignal version hardly works on windows 7 and does not run in 1920x1080 and the ground is pink. same reason i bought age of empires 2 HD it runs on modern pcs and the ground is not pink and it runs in 1080 p the old versions do not work well with modern hardware sadly

There are already plenty of other threads about this, honestly it's just starting to look like spam, if you think the game is worth it, go for it and buy it, if you don't, feel free to play your $5 gold edition, noone is forcing you into anything and you still got things like Game Ranger.

I appreciate the point about compatibility issues .. those can be a good reason for buying a remastered version.

However improved visuals .... 1080p / 1920 x 1080? Seriously?

Have you see then screenshots on the store page ... they look no better than the original .. in fact, in my opinion, they look worse.

It's the gameplay that matters, not some tarted up visuals, and as far as I am aware the gameplay will be the same as the original.

i'm buying it because the original is basically impossible to play on my pc... and still to date there are pretty much no games of worth that are similar to AoM and AoE.

Just wait for the sale. I thought the AOK re-release was overpriced too, and got it for $10. Will probably look for a similar 50% off for this, hopefully come summer.
