@ devs? Could you make an option to select your hotkeys in the option menu?

I'm not sure there are any hotkeys that are necessary, i.e. there is always a way to do anything without using the keyboard. There is a delete button. But keyboard shortcuts do obviously make everything easier. However, without a working delete key, I would have thought a game was the least of your problems; it would be much more annoying for word processing. I'd buy a new keyboard. Though I do agree that there should be a way of changing the hotkeys (if there isn't already, don't know since I've never bothered).

you can with everything other than delete

I think it's odd that the delete button is in the advanced combat commands, meaning that all buildings and non-military units do not have access to it. And some units that can't be deleted (e.g. Arkantos) do have it.

All hotkeys not found in the ingame hotkey editor are present in the gamex.con, found here: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Age of Mythology\startup

The hotkey you desire to change is this one:
map ("+delete", "game", "uiDeleteSelectedUnit"),
wheras "+delete" marks the key on your keyboard. Simply change it to the key of your choice and save the file, then you should be able to delete units and buildings using that key ingame.

Hope it helps. Be careful that the key is not already taken and ready to change the other one if it is, otherwise you may end up with overlaps.

Not entirely sure how you mean it, but some hotkeys are currently missing from the ingame hotkey editor, but we are looking into changing that. If you meant something else, please clarify.

I meant a way to change your hotkeys. But I just checked and saw it is already there. Like doomed said. So my mistake.

But indeed, maybe in customize hotkeys/hotkey groups/selection/command you could add 'delete an object' with standard hotkey 'delete' so in the rare cases were it would be broken you can still change it.

and thanks for working on ingame hotkeys.

Do you know where your steam folder is? From there you can go to SteamApps, then common, then Age of Mythology, then startup. In that folder, create a txt document and open it with notepad and paste the line "map (" ", "game", "uiDeleteSelectedUnit")" and add your desired hotkey between " ". After that, save the file and rename it to user.con

Unfortunately I do not know the code for "~". Most other keys are more straightforward, e.g. 1 = 1, a = a etc.

what al of this is just to confusing
McLerristarr Nov 23, 2015 @ 11:46am
Steps (based on Kyomaku's information):

  1. Go to your Age of Mythology: Extended Edition folder. For most people (including me), it will be located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Age of Mythology.
  2. Go to the folder \startup.
  3. Create a new .txt (Notepad) file in the folder.
  4. In the new document, enter this text:
    map ("X", "game", "uiDeleteSelectedUnit")
  5. Replace X with the key you want to use for deleting, e.g. 1 or a. Make sure you don't use a key that's already used by something else. If you want to use the ~ key, then try entering that, but that may not work and you may instead need to use the code for that key, which Kyomaku doesn't know.
  6. Save and exit the file.
  7. Rename the file to "user.con" (without the quotation marks).

Done. So as long as that actually works, really easy, though obviously it's impossible to figure out without asking someone who already knows. It would obviously be much simpler if the game let you do it. Hopefully you have Windows.

Oh cool so we can edit user.con and AOM EE is fine with that? Good to know. Much better to edit hotkeys using that than the built in interface. Need something to stop my TC or dock every time I queue a unit by hitting a.
Pascal Nov 23, 2015 @ 5:16pm
Hmm I made a user.con but it is not changing in game. Does this have to be added as mod.
