Mods in Campaign
Hi, I want to play AoM campaigns with mods installed, yet they don't work. I have a lot of them, all of them working with each other perfectly, yet they don't show up in AoM basic campaign, dunno yet about the Titans. Any way to make this work? Like telling the base campaign to use Protox, instead of Proto?

Yeah the Trident campaign uses Vanilla assets so you'd have to rewrite your mods accordingly. You can post things like this in Workshop Discussions, by the way.

There's no way of telling the game to use different files. Mods can only add new files (for new units, scenarios, etc.) or replace existing files with ones with new files of exactly the same name. If you want a mod for protox.xml to affect the campaign, just duplicate the modded file and rename it to proto.xml. It's the same for techtree/techtreex and a few others (but not many).

Tried doing that but It does not work like that. The game only takes the info neccesary for the campaign itself, not more

I'm not sure what you're doing wrong, because it should work. The original campaign uses the file proto.xml, and the Titans and Golden Gift campaigns (and custom scenarios and random maps) use the file protox.xml. If you change the file proto.xml, it will affect the campaign.

Apart from the few files that are separated into vanilla and expansion versions, all scenarios will draw upon the same files. So if you mod the animation file for Arkantos, he will be modded in the campaign.

It's possible that you have other mods turned on that are overriding the changes.

I just tested it and it didn't work. Presumably, the mod manager does not allow changes to the vanilla files. If you edit the files in their original location rather than using the mod folder, it should work.

I also tried doing it on a copy from AOM Gold, it seems the game hard-coded or something the campaign so it has some base stuff from the files, even if they are touched

Ugh that blows... Was looking to finaly have healing units during some missions where you dont have them :/

Just did some tests. Modding the anim files (and so presumably all non-data files) affects the original campaign. You can also mod the vanilla data files but it only works if you modify the file in the original location; it won't work through the mod manager. So it's completely possible, just not convenient.
I still believe the devs should modify the game so the vanilla campaign uses the files from protox instead of proto

It would screw with the balance. You can easily mod the game to do that yourself.

What balance? People only play this in singleplayer. There is no competitive room for this game, since the competitive scene would require it to have more than 200 players as an all time.

The balance of how easy/hard the campaign is. And how the AI is programmed for each scenario.

Yeah and how would that balance be broken since The Titans already had the original campaigns on it with the new protox being only usable for the new campaign? And also since the OG campaigns dont use the new units and stuff no balance would be broken at all. It's only for User easy access

Because the old levels don't use new units etc., the AI might not cope with the changes. Plus, the balance of many units, techs, etc. has changed since the vanilla game, so the levels would play out slightly differently. For example, a level might start you with a certain number of units intended to allow you to survive the start of the level before you can train more, but those units might have been nerfed in the new balance, meaning the level would be impossible with the new balance.

The balance and units introduced with Tale of the Dragon are available in The Titans for some reason, but that seems less than ideal.
