Not buying the soulless remake, btw. I'll be forever playing this version when I'm in the mood for some AoM, thank you very much
Go here, download your favorite choices, and back them up to a folder specifically for custom arts to be used on Steam. Just right-click on any image you want to change to a different artwork in your library.

Actually, forget the default art. There are way nicer options available. I always adjust my library to my own preference. I even put some images in Photoshop and made edits on my own in the past.
However, for this fix, I just downloaded the best quality to my eyes available for a nice background that could give me the best of both worlds, and then I later after adjusted the logo size and position. I think it looks nicer like this. The old image is cropped in an awkward view, or at least from what I see of the gods being cutoff. The default background just feels seriously zoomed in. This other image gets rid of that, so many thanks to those providing images and edits of their own through Steamgriddb. It's nice to preserve artwork there as well.

I think the image has a grainy effect going on with it to help give a feeling of age. That already does enough for me. No black and white needed, thanks! ;)
One of these with "Extended Edition" is more cropped and blurry-looking to me up close, so I prefer the non-extended edition.
