Age of Mythology: Extended Edition

Age of Mythology: Extended Edition

What about Indian Civilization?
I think it will be great having the Indians as a playable civilization in Age of Mithology. Induism has a great pantheon, a strong cultural tradition with many myth and mythological creatures. They would also have interesting combat unit -for example warriors wielding scimitars, Rahias like pharaos, indian elephant mounters. It may be a bit controversial for Induism followers, i know, but also useful to diffund their incredible richness of culture and traditions. What do you think about it?

The stuff you mentioned sucks
Rakshas, Nagas, Yakshas, Devatas, Apsaras, Asparas, Dakinis, Mandehas, Siddhas, Gandharavas, Rishis, monkeys, the list goes on and on with cool stuff.
You're right, and that's precisely why we need an Indian Expansion! :steamhappy:
I was thinking about that yesterday. Absolutely agree. They have a lot of things.

After Indians they should start thinking about Aztecs, Mayans and Incas... wow, so much stuff to do FE :D
It would be cool to have Hinduism in the game, but I don't think they will precisely for the reason you mentioned - it would likely offend people of that religion. I doubt they'll ever put any surviving religions in the game, but it's a great idea for a mod.
The Indians are one of the oldest cultures of the mankind and Hinduism is the oldest religion of the world. Even though Hinduism has a great pantheon that would fit perfectly for this game, there's is a problem: this game is called Age of Mythology, and Hinduism isn't a mythology, but the third religion in the world by number of beleavers, so adding hinduist deities as myth units and Shiva as a titan could be offensive to the indian community. Personally, I'd like the Indians to be added as a DLC, but there's a lot of people that could get offended.

In my opinion, the next addition should be the Celts, since they have the most popular mythology in the western world: dragons, wizards, elves, orcs, witches, fairies and most of the creatures from The Lord of the Rings. Other potential civilizations for this game are the Babylonians, the Mesoamericans and the sub-saharian Africans.

Dominions did it just fine Zevlag, and there are quite a few games about Christian and Hebrew myth and legend.

Frankly, as an atheist, I look at all religions as mythology, but you're right, some people would take offense. I just don't particularly care. If someone takes offense at something as petty as a single game based around RTS strategy with fantastic creatures using their fantastic creatures presented in a way they don't like, too bad. There are plenty of people who would buy it up like hotcakes, and they can't very well sue. There are also plenty of other games they could play to avoid the one that offends them. I'm no religious scholar, but I doubt most Hindu gamers would look at it as a base insult. Bring on India! Would be a lot of fun to play.

I just hope that regardless of what they do for the next expansion (assuming there is one), they actually take the time to make it playable for everyone BEFORE they release it. That's really the one thing that ticks me off about this. Minor bugs are expected. Gamebreaking bugs and unlaunchability are unacceptable. If that's taken care of next time, I'd welcome whatever they make to keep this wonderful game alive.
I totally quote Jemolk! That will be real fun, it's just a game! Many games have offended groups of people before, but the world goes on, and I think there would be nothing offensive in a game like this. I sadly quote also the second half of your note...
I think what happened with smite with one indian lawsuit about some god, might affect if a new DLC is released for the Indians.
I hope you like it ! I must admit to having spent a lot of time due to the difficulty ( some religions resume old ones , and the bestiary was a tough challenge ) but in the end I managed to get a good result and at least now I can say I learned something interesting about the religions and myths of the Celts , Hindus , Babylonians , Assyrians , Akkadians , Phoenicians , Semites , Nordic , Germans , Egyptians and Greeks .
This is my vision of a satisfactory expansion by Dev or Modder should work . Enjoy the reading !

- New unit for Nordic Civ. : the Dwarf Warrior ( Longhouse production T2 ), new unit for all Civ. : the Merchant Ship ( Dock production T1 ), add Watch Tower (Technology) for Egyptians Civ.
- Celts favor creation : construction of a new specific building , the Necropolis ( limit of 10 units, method similar to that Egyptian but with a lower rate of production ).
- Mesopotamian favor creation : two methods to obtain it , create priests, who will pray at the Temples ( method similar to the Greek but with the restriction of the production limit of 5 units ) or create a sacrificial animal to the market and sacrifice to the temple ( more expensive method but ensures to obtain quickly favor in case of need ).
- Hindu favor creation : enable in the market a button for donations to the gods ( donate a certain quantity of units of each resource , will ensure a certain amount of favor ).
- Increase the number of wonders for each civilization to 5 creating a special section , every wonder will ensure a different bonus . ( Eg , a new wonder for the Greeks could be the Colossus of Rhodes , what ? Someone said AoE1 ? Yes Yes Yes ) .
- Herdable animals trainable .
- Increase the number of God powers for all Civ. ( similar to the Atlantean Civ. ) .
- Increase the number of minor Gods to 12 , choice between 4 Gods every Tier ( AoE3 style ).

Now that would be awesome. My ancestors were from India and I am also hindu, I would love it. I don't get it why other hindu's should be offended by having ancient Indian culture and religion implemented in one of the best RTS games that have ever been made. To me it feels very flattering if developers would actually spend time and effort to get to know the ancient Indian civilization and go through the trouble to get it into the game.

I don't feel like India suits the game. I just would like the game to focus on Norse mythology a bit more, instead of getting too " Oriental ".
Just because A religion is still 'active' nowadays, doesn't mean things from the Religion can't be considered a Myth, like Nagas, as long as they don't exist in real life they are merely a myth.

The many different religions in India that are put tugether into hinduism do provide a huge pantheon of gods and other things.

I didn't even say this.
