How do I install custom maps?

I know it seems like a stupid question but I've been looking online for an hour and no matter what I've tried I cannot get any of the maps I've attempted to install to showup in my game.

normally just go to the workshop and subscrive to a map then just start the game.

I was talking more maps downloaded online from like aoeheaven for example

Well, lots of the maps are actually for the non-extended version. However, for the ones that are for EE, instructions should come with them. I do not think any of them are direct downloads to aot, you have to move the files into the game.

move your downloaded maps into your aom/rm2/versionx.0 folder, just moving them to rm2/ wont allow them to show up in game.

If they are scenarios put them in your scenario folder.

my issue was inside my rm2 folder I have 3 folders named version1.0, version2.0, and version2.4, looking in all of these folders show them containing what I assume are map files, I've tried moving downloaded maps into the version1.0 folder with no luck

could you show us what maps you are actually trying to install? or maybe if they are like nottud says, .scx files they should go into your scenario folder.

The maps I had been trying to install were part of a map pack called Nottud's Massive Random Map Pack you can find it on AOM Heaven and all the files located in that collection are .xs and .xml files
