Age of Mythology: Extended Edition requires steam to be running
Hi. Got this issue. I was playing for eight hours. Then the game had an auto update like 2mb since then I got error mentioned in title. Reinstalling, checking the game integrity, even following another thread on steam about editing some variable in Users folder didnt help. The thing is when I installed it on another computer, it works normally.
I think uninstalling Steam could do the trick, but I will try that as the last solutions, cause of all the games I have installed.

Any ideas what else could be the cause? Or any solutions?

In the local files folder select your AoMX.exe file, after that you have to open the file properties.

After that, select "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP service pack 3"

Finally, check the box that says "Run at 640*480 screen resolution.

That should fix the game for those who have unexpected shutdowns.

Has a good old pc restart not helped? and is steam actually running?

Still didnt find anything, basically I am just waiting for patch.

Nope, that was the first thing I did. Steam is running everytime. Even in Task manager is everything fine.

Okay, I somehow just managed to start the game.
The only thing I did was switching to beta 2.7 (that wasnt there yesterday, I swear) and then choosed to bypass the launcher. I also have the chinese dlc disabled, but I dont know if that has an effect.

You can find the beta setting when you click on AoM in your library -> properties -> beta versions

when you switched to beta 2.7after then you did switched back to 2.8 right ?

when i switch it to 2.7 i can logg in but after then when i switch back to 2.8 still same problem :(

Nope, I still have it on 2.7 and the game is working. Atleast the campaign, the MP probably wont.

This issue is then likely related to the other issue about the game being black discussed on other topics. devs are aware and hopefully will make a fix if possible.

well ratings just got reset with 2.8 release so you would probably be 1600 again anyways :P
