try playing on the balance mod ;)
Just some suggestions because I really like the idea of that mod - it's the closest thing people are going to get to dev support yet it only has about 250 subs. It needs to reach critical mass.
Use these maps, the original ESO maps. Ra and Chinese are automatically nerfed by the design of the maps and rushing made possible again.
These mods are a waste of time, those balance changes were made by the same people who destroyed the game in the first place(Nakaumare, Kyomaku, Magic), everyone in the community claims their a balance expert.
but with EE, lol I thought I was keeping this community alive? now it sounds like you want me to leave. :(
i dont want you to leave but i was just wondering why you chose EE over voobly/gameranger as they offer the original maps by default, which seems to be the most important thing for you
With Voobly, once the patch was released, it was difficult to get a game. Half the players wanted the patch and the other half didn't so we would end up hosting two separate games and refused to play with each other.
I have a question for you, what's a balance map to you?
Anyone else having the same trouble?
I think 75% of the community will agree with your response, even a 10yr old kid will agree with your answer ... so you basically want symmetric maps or something similar to voobly's maps?
but do you ever wonder how brilliant the developers were of this game, they created this game from scratch. These were the same guys who made AoE2, pretty much set the standards for RTS games but yet they were so dumb they couldn't even make a balance map? lol how is that possible?
There're only two answers, one they were really smart, the masterpiece they made is to complex for the avg Joe to understand.
Two, that they were actually idiots, they manage to make the game but they couldn't understand basic symmetry for maps that a 10yr could understand. Now this is pretty much impossible because these guys were dev from the 90s. If you were a developer in the 90s for Microsoft this means you actually had to be brilliant, this wasn't the steam era where everyone can make games.
....lol dude, you have to agree with what I just said.
A symmetric map is balanced and fair to our eyes but it's not balanced for AoM. There's nothing balanced or fair about the civs in this game. It's so complex that even within each civ, the three cultures are completely different from each other (e.g. gaia > oranos > kronos). My point is, this game wouldn't work out on as symmetric map.
in a hurry, lol but if you want, I can explain why the ESO maps look super unfair but are in fact balanced.
I've taken time to learn and use the xs language to create maps. after doing this and then looking at how ensemble made the map scripts, it looks pretty bad most of the time.
random pieces of code that have no use at all (even though its being read every time), midgard supposed to have a 30% chance of having 1-2 boar spawn, marsh having 2 more hunt spawns that never gets spawned properly, savannah is supposed to have a closer by goldmine, etc etc.
I'm not saying Ensemble didnt know what they were doing, but xs was a new language for them aswell as they created it and its functions, and they just didnt have time to get properly experienced with map scripting.
the AoE3 Community basically only uses mirrored maps for everything (which i dont like personally) because the scripting language has evolved so that it can be.
Im against mirrored maps cuz it takes away a scouting aspect, if you scout your own side you will know exactly what the other side looks like too.
But im certain that when one player spawns with a back large gold mine and the other does not, that needs to be changed.
