I reckon just run through the story man, you can build up some cash to get the echos and get a few exotic girls / weapons. Story seems quickest way to level up too.

Just take it slow and enjoy the game. You don't need to rush or worry about what is meta, but I will say that to do a bit more of the difficult modes (which isn't many) you'll need two teams that consist of 1 DPS and 2 supports. The current event is almost finished and the next update will be releasing on the 22nd of August next week.

A few more things, don't spend your digicash on the standard banner and if you're going to be F2P don't pull on the event weapon banner unless you really like the character the gun belongs to. There really isn't any FOMO, you can get important items from previous events from farming operations. The only exception of course are the BP skins since the devs still haven't said anything about rerunning them.

if you got Fenny SSR (rifle) it's from the anniversary event's gift.

the beginner pull is worth it until you get your SSR from it.

i believe going through story first and trying out more modes, after you feel comfortable with the game, you can go for clearing bi-weekly dungeon for free crystals after you get used to doing daily missions.

try checking event list? you should have a button to invite her to your roster, if you don't see it, you might have missed the event.
