Was this clue even used? (spoilers)
I finished the game. Ok, so the clock uses a base 62 number system, I got that before even finding the letter conversions, and it actually wasted some of my time. However, at the end, all you need to do is make the leap that WORK = the first four digit number you're given, and then look at how much the numbers change in order. Only the first digit in each has a different "62s spot," so it's pretty noticeable regardless of number base, aside from the fact that "life" occurred to me anyway as the most likely answer with the same number of letters in it. So basically, I didn't need the clock at all. How was that supposed to work?

It's base 60, not 62. If you watch, you'll see that it skips lowercase y and z.
Base 60 is used twice. The first time you have an alternate clue that will get you to the same place, and it leads to a dead end anyways so you could just skip that section entirely. The second time the game outright tells you to look at the clock, but that answer was pretty guessable anyways. So it is not surprising that miscounting the clock didn't mess you up.

Like Tirear said the clock is to decode the last pass, but i also didn't use it. I didn't even use the equation, as soon as i got the 3 reports i entered the room and when they asked me what work is the answer just came naturally lol

There's no indication that it's base 60, it just turned over because it's a clock...

I think the fact that it's being shown on a clock IS the indication that it's base 60.
